Do you ever get a round where you just don't get any luck??

On Saturday I started ok - 3rd hole (long tight uphill bind par 5 and my nemisis) I hit an ok drive, ball in middle of fairway - really poor stance ball at least 1' bellow me(bumpy landing zone on fairway) hit a poor 3w. Behind a tree - pull off a fantastic fading 3w lands in middle of fairway at 100m mark but into a divot. Hit out of divot - ball hits sprinkler head takes off like a rocket oob.


I managed to shoot a net 73 while playing some fantastic golf while getting no luck at all - I came off the course pleased at one of my best rounds in terms of putting ball striking and driving - but simply no luck at all.

Lets hope I get a touch of luck next week - only 2 more qual comps left :-(

Will always happen as some stage, it's annoying but you have to take it. I used to get upset about it but if you take away the knowledge that you were striking the ball well it was a good day. And as the old saying goes 'a bad day on the golf course always beats the best day in the office'.

Yes!! Yesterdays medal.

If I didn't have bad luck yesterday I would have had no luck!!

Even though I shot one under my H/C it felt like a struggle all the way round.

Horrid lies, obstructions, un-kind bounce, don't even mention lip outs!!!

Tell me about it in the Medal on sat at the first hole. Hit great drive middle of the fairway hit a sprinkler, bounced straight right into the fairway bunker. Got it out landed in a clump of heather, 8 iron 135 yards, flew everything into deep deep rough, 7.
2nd hole again a good drive short of the burn 187 to go but in a divot, thinned it into the raised bank at the back of the burn, 7 again. six shots in 2 holes

As golfers, we have an unswerving ability to only ever notice the bad luck that comes our way.

We immediately forget the necky one that got a straight bounce, the one we got a bit thin which luckliy sat down like a wet tea bag and the putt that we (mis)read as dead straight but pushed it and saw it break into the hole.

Ask pretty much anyone how they did after a round and it will always involve a line about it being 2/3/4 shots better if it wasn't for a bad bounce or 10.

I was just going to mention how I had some very lucky bounces at this weekends medal.

The sprinkler head on 2 was my friend and the tree to the right of 11 was kind enough to place my ball 3 feet from the hole.

However, I must have really annoyed the bin on the ladies tee on 15 as it decided to keep my ball in the mesh, unplayable lie?

Anyways, its all great fun.

As Gary Player says, the more you practice, the luckier you get.

I don't practice much.. you do the math

I have had a round not long back where 2 birdie putts lipped out and 3 par putts rolled around the hole. I felt like quitting the game for good

I feel like I have had a year with no luck
I freely admit to playing my worst golf for some time but it seemed that everytime I was offline (every hole!) if there was some awful spot I was in it, square against tree's, under bushes,no back swing etc.etc. It was as if the pain of watching my HC creep up wasn't enough, the game had to kick me even harder when I was already down.

I suppose it happens both ways. This weekend...

On 2nd pushed a long drive to the right. About 170 to go but due to trees, no real option other than a low punch of about 100 then a chip onto green. The brilliant punch shot really fizzed away and was going to go all the way to the green. Then hit something in middle of the fairway (sprinkler?), shot at right angles into the pond.

On 11th, second shot was something like 20degrees off line. Hit a tree, deflected, right through middle of canopy of another tree with another slight deflection, on to green and stops 6inches from hole. Tap in birdie.

But which one will I remember longest??
