Royal County Down trip

Sorry for taking the thread off track.

Kevin, really appreciate the pics. Included is a course I was a member of in the mid 70's, Naas. It was only a 9 holer back then.

Naas Co Kildare ?

Sorry just seen the link , i see Athy , my club on there and Abbeyleix my old club on there aswell ..

Rich . apologies for taking thread off topic , just these 2 posts got my attention big time

Thinking of going to RCD for a four day trip next April with the boys, and look for some advice on

a) where else to play. Thought about Aardglass.

b) where to stay. If we could find three or four decent courses within say an hour drive, would like to then stay centrally rather than at RCD. Basically happy to drive up to an hour max.

Any one else been on such a trip that could advise, or any locals that can help.

Thanks

Rich

played RCD in 2012 stayed at the Enniskeen Country House Hotel
2 nights b&b + ,4 course dinner one night for £99.
beautiful location in countryside only 5 minute drive to the golf course.

Mourne Seafood Bar 2nd night 12 minutes from the hotel,

Trip booked. Staying at the Cuan hotel in Strangford. 4 nights, single rooms, including two evening meals and four breakfasts £250 each. Seems reasonable to me.

RCD booked. Just need to sort out Ardglass and Kirkistown. Hopefully meet up with a couple of forumers who are members there.

Firstly, you lucky lucky boy, IMO the best course anywhere.

We stayed in Belfast City Centre and enjoyed a bit of nightlife (stayed at the Europa ?). Its about 1 hour to RCD and also 1 hour to Royal Portrush (great course also). A fine trip !!

As mentioned above my missus and I played Annesley Links - RCD's second course back in May - from 5th to 15th it's the most fun short course I've ever played - some tremenodu short par 4s and par 3s and that whole section of the course wends it's way through the Championship course - reason it was on our list was this review

Malek took us round Ardglass the day after (he signed us on for £20) a head - top bloke and what magnificent views from some of the holes on the course

Just booked up games at Ardglass, Royal County Down and Kirkistown Castle. Looked for a game for our last day, and it seems we can play Royal Portrush for £75.:whoo: If we played the next day, 1st May it would be £155.:eek:Two hour drive there, and an hour plus drive back to Belfast airport but well worth it.

Email sent to the club requesting a couple of tee times. Fingers crossed.

Don't suppose there are any members on here.

If you can pull yourself away from the great links golf in the area then I'd definitely take a look at Malone GC. Great set up and Parkland golf at its finest.

Couldn't do it Junior.;)

Portrush booked up now. Green fee has gone up to £80, but it would be £160 if we played the next day. Just need some decent weather now.

Richart, rcd is playing mats already in prep for Irish open next year or you can drop in the rough. Despite this course should be in super nick as it's only a month before the open when you play it.
They told us it would be mats before we booked. Not a problem for me as I am always in the rough.:(

:whoo: Off first thing in the morning. Cold weather gear including thermals, waterproofs and plenty of balls all packed. Don't suppose I will sleep much tonight.

Had a nice email from Kirkistown Castle, saying they were looking forward to see us, and that the first round (beers !) was on them. Ardglass also sent me a video of a drone flying over the course. Wow hope it is not too windy otherwise I could be going for a swim. All the courses have been a pleasure to deal with. Just hope I have packed my A game, and not the normal Y/Z game.
