I remember after Augusta there was a lot of talk on here about Rorys' putting not being good enough for him to win a major. I was surprised to read in this article that he leads the US tour stats on putts made from inside 25 feet.

Is this a case of there are now too many stats and your bound to show well on one, or is Rory a better putter than we are assuming?

From what I have seen he makes a good number from outside 10 feet which would increase his % but doesnt make as many from inside 10 feet, which are the real birdie chances and par saves.

I don't think he's a terrible putter at all. His touch around the greens can be a bit suspect. But I think the issue at Augusta was not being able to make the clutch putts that were needed from inside 10ft when they were most needed. I can recall at least half a dozen very makeable putts that were missed, all in the same round.

He obviously blew up on the back 9 round 4 at Augusta, but it wasn't only his putting that went around 10,11,12. So were nerves more the problem or is there fundamentally something wrong with his putting? Surely if he had a built in fault he wouldn't hole so many long ones.
I'm just wondering if he sorts out the mental side will this automatically cure the short putt problem?
Just a thought. Should he be spending more time with a sports psychologist as well as on the putting green?

I think McIlroy fell victim to the roars that were going around Augusta. If I remember rightly, about the time he went on to the back nine Woods almost eagled and a huge roar went around the course. Rors hadn't been playing well and instead of playing his own game, he went looking for shots. He picked up the Driver instead of a 3 wood and shanked it horribly into the rough, and then it all collapsed around him.

I've never considered McIlroy's putting as "weak" (certainly not in the same field as Sergio's, for example) and I'd imagine if anything it's a minor concentration issue.

I don't think Rory's a bad putter. He's not as good as the best on Tour but he's certainly not the worst by a long way.
He's still learning and I think the World had better watch out in a few years time..

Not sure he is a clutch putter on a Sunday as Harrington use to be, GMac was last year and in the RC or Woods in his pomps was. I think he makes a good chunck of mid range efforts and lets be fair he is still learning his trade really. What's this, his 3rd or 4th full year out on tour
