Not a huge Monty fan but I'm old enough to have seen his career come and go.
Monty bangs on about RC much more than any other player in the history of the event. Garcia is not far behind. Monty imo trys to big up the event in order to make his career bio look better. That is because he is major-less which is, fair or not, how great players are measured in history.
When people look back in 50 years as we do about Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus etc they will talk about Tiger Woods, Mickelson, Goosen, Faldo, Price, Ballesteros, Els, Cabrera as the players of this era because of their major wins, none of them because of their RC record.
For Monty fans such as yourself that may be difficult to accept but is fact. Top players are measured on Major success.
The Ryder Cup is a great event but for serious golfers such as McIilroy, Woods etc it is not their reason for playing golf - they want to win big titles that count, not doubles matches in an exhibition event, as good as the RC is to watch.
Still think I'm talking pi$h? History says McIlroy is correct.
