There's a little blip on Tiger's Web site, tigerwoods.com, in which he says he was offered the chance to be an assistant captain to Paul Azinger for this year's Ryder Cup matches, at Valhalla, in Louisville, Ky. He declined the invitation, for reasons he cites on his website. Here are seven of the reasons he didn't cite:

1) I was last at Valhalla in 2000, for the PGA Championship, where I beat Bob May in a playoff. I'm gonna need a little more incentive to go back.

2) The thing I like about this knee rehab is that it gets me OUT of the Ryder Cup.

3) I'm trying to set myself out of the 2009 Presidents Cup, and showing up at this year's Ryder Cup only hurts those chances.

4) I'll be busy that week with family stuff, teaching Sam the stinger and how to carry a cellphone and a box of Nike shoes to avoid autograph hounds.

5) If I go to the Ryder Cup I might have to answer questions about my knee. I'd rather clean Butchie's car.

6) In the team room, I'd have to act like I feel we have a better team than the Euros. My acting's pretty good, but there are limits.

7) I have more good friends on the Euro team than the American team -- where does the "w" go in awkward?

This was on Golf.com, what you reckon folks? Anything else we can add + what do we feel about it.

Firstly , i think this is a wind-up and a bit tongue in cheek. I don't mean your post HTL but look at this . His son is , what , about a year old ? Why ould he be teaching a one yr old to carry a phone.

On a more serious note , i think Tiger missing from the USA team will make them stronger as a unit . The Tiger factor can work two ways and with him missing , no-one on the US team will feel 'inferior' . Could mould them together .

His child is a she nomadpaul. It is defo tongue in cheek, just trying to get some banter going.

Personally , i have it on good authority that Tiger's glad he's not playing as the US team management refused to let all their players wear red on the final day :D

Think the US will be a better team without him. Not sure his presence either on the course or in the locker room is universally appreciated. Got a horrible feeling the Europeans will get an old fashioned arse whooping this time around

Someone has suggested that it would be good for the cup if Europe did get beat this time round; that way the yanks would stay interested and we would still have a Ryder Cup. Can't believe the US would ditch the event cos they keep losing; more like it would evolve into something they would have better chances of winning each time.
