Robert Kubica is/was an F1 Driver, he is a rather serious looking Polish guy who looks as though you could push him over with a feather but I am told he is an enigma and is incredibly strong. Take my word for it when I tell you this guy is talented... he would have been a world champ without dobut!

Last year he was doing a rally in his own time in his own car and had a freakishly bad accident that among other things left him with his hand hanging off(literally) and a broken leg. He was put back together over a year of operations and although he did not make it back to the track in time for next year he would have been back until....

He slipped over on some ice and broke the same leg he has just had a ton of work on. I am gutted for him, absolutely gutted!!!

Re: Robert Kubica

He was a world champion in the making. Sadly, I doubt that he will return although I would love to be wrong.

EDIT:- You forgot to mention that he's also broken his arm during his F3000 days. His only bit of luck was to survive that accident in Canada in 2009 (I think). I was watching it live and I honestly thought he had been killed.

Re: Robert Kubica

Sometimes, if it wasn't for bad luck, there wouldn't be any luck at all.
It reminds me of the time I played my comeback game from a shattered Kneecap and tripped running onto the pitch, subsequently shattering the other kneecap.. Cue retirement...

Wow! I'm not a motoring fan so didn't have a clue who he is... but just watch this... 1min30sec....

Yep he pretty much walked away from this, they dont allow you to walk away but he was fine... shocking though Hu...

Re: Robert Kubica

Race drivers are tough tough cookies.

After having the kind of shunts that they have, most of us would probably be too traumatised to ever get back in a road car, never mind come back next race and do it all over again.

The footage of the accident that claimed Dan Wheldon is one of the most shocking things I've ever seen. :(

I accept that people may not enjoy the spectacle of modern F1 (personally I still love it), but credit where it is due... the drivers are pretty amazing athletes.

It seems appropriate that Kubica's seat at Renault is being taken by Kimi Raikkonen this year... he's even more of a nutter. Ever seen footage of him racing snowmobiles?

Re: Robert Kubica

Dan Wheldon was horrific and one from down the line that sticks in my head is Alex Zanardi!!

Testament to the safety standards in F1 these days. He wouldn't have walked away from that as recently as 10 years ago (IMO)

Kubica is/was my favourite F1 driver. Doubted he would ever return and perform at the same level as before but now he almost certainly won't. Tragedy that he never got a shot at the world championship, am amazing talent.

Re: Robert Kubica

The problem is that there are lots of talented youngsters coming through the ranks, and they arent going to wait for him to be fit again.

After a couple of seasons out, I doubt if he will be able to regain that compeditive edge and I fear that he will be overlooked.

Makes Paul Caseys shoulder look pathetic in comparrison

Shame, but thats life

Don't think he will be overlooked as such, he is thought of in high esteem by everyone in F1, particularly Ferrari, and had it not been for his first injury he would probably be a Ferrari driver already/have a contract for 2013.

His problem is he probably won't physically be able to perform to the level he used to

He is very highly thought of indeed but after the time is has taken Michael to come back and will take Kimi to get back without any injury it would be a tough call to even try him out. Hope I am wrong but it's rair...

Re: Robert Kubica

i remember it being said at the time but why was a man who had a bright future in f1 allowed to even race in a rally event?makes no sense to me and look what happened!!!

it is a shame because he did have a great future ahead of him.

Re: Robert Kubica

I guess if they want to race, they want to race.

Rallying is a big hobby of his and i think he wanted in his contract that he was allowed to do it.

I've seen pics this week of Hamilton skiing, Webber loves his cycling (and has injured himself through it in the past).

I can see both sides of the coin. There would have been plenty of time for Kubica to rally once he is finished in f1, but at the same time what are highly paid sports people supposed to do in their spare time? Sit at home wrapped in cotton wool?
