I bought a pair of footjoys (dryjoys i think is the model) in August which are starting to split on the crease across the toe and as a result let in a little moisture. At the moment it's not too much of a problem and you would barely notice the splitting but I imagine this is only going to get worse. Does this fall under the footjoy 1 year return policy? And am i correct in saying i need to go back to the shop that sold them to me?
Thanks

If you bought them in August and they are splitting now (3-4 months later) then yes, I would be returning them.
It doesn't surprise me though as FJ quality has gone way downhill over recent years.
I had AQL shoes a couple of years ago and they lasted 3 months before splitting at the sole/upper join. Straight back to the retailer and refunded immediately.

agreed re FJ shoe quality these last 3 years especially- Theres a few threads on them here, do a search OP, FJ representative even posted but didnt say anything of merit unfortunately.
Personally I had to return 2 expensive pairs within 2 mths and the replacement pair are just as bad but I've kept them as I cant go through all the hassle anymore.

Nike shoes are on my radar now as recommended by my pro's team

Won a pair of Dryjoys about 3 years ago - worst pair of shoes I have ever had, only just bettered by a pair of Syngr's. Very very uncomfortable. Been wearing adidas for the last 3 years now - Tour 360 then Adipure's and now Adizeros. Never had a problem with any of them

I had a pair of FJ Contours that I started wearing about April time. First real rains and the course was wet and they leaked really badly so I handed them back to the proshop and they replaced them. I've no confidence that the new ones will fare any better.

Never had a problem personally although I do agree there is a large number including several members of my own club that have had issues. If you got them in August then take them back to the retailer for a refund

I have sworn by FJ's for years, but in the recent past I have had three or four pairs split in a similar fashion. They have all failed within the 12 month warranty, and until the last pair I have returned them to my pro shop and they have been replaced by FJ no questions asked.

The last pair split across the upper after 7 months and I returned them again. They went to FJ and came back with a letter from their "expert" saying I had "force dried" them with a hair dryer or similar and as such had invalidated the warranty. I had done absolutely nothing of the sort, and told them so in no uncertain terms.

They continued to refuse any refund, and it was only because our pro is mates with a FJ rep that I eventually got my cash back. Alas, I will never buy from the company again - partly because I agree their quality is nowhere near as food as it once was, but I object to being called a liar and accused of something I haven't done.

I bought a pair of Adizeros to replace them.

Well looks like I'll try and return them. I bought them from lillywhites which I believe is a sports direct in all but name so wish me luck

my foot joys are 10 months old both split on back and one on front lost receipt otherwise they would go back.

Success. I took the shoes back and exchanged for a new pair. Here's hoping the 2nd pair last a little longer

After similar experiences I purchased a pair of ECCO Tour shoes that were quite expensive, I expected them to last a while.

After six months the sole came away at the toe. I sent them back and a year later the soles are coming away on both shoes. The quality of the leather is very good but alas the assembly is rubbish.

Might help if you keep them clean after each round and dry them carefully and thoroughly. Also apply a polish or leather treatment regularly this nourishes the leather to keep it supple and also more waterproof. Also white leather seems to be poorer quality than black in my experience

I've had loads of shoes, golf shoes, football boots, walking boots, miltary boots and never had a crack in the leather of any even when dried on radiators when trekking for a few weeks during winters. Ivealways looked after footwear carefully as its the only thing to keep you from the ground or weather (sockes not included)

this man speaketh the truth. Adidas man through and through. (okay the heels can be a bit kack, but I can forgive them that)

I have a pair of 360's, very comfy, but like u say kak heels, mine have been re-lined with green duck tape, the tape lssted better than the original lining, over 12 months on this lot of tape. And in the winter just wear sealskinz socks so makes no difference if they leak

sports direct returns policy is terrible, the store i went to basically told me its so cheap you tough

I think if you don't clean or dry the shoes regularly and fail to show them some love it isn't a huge surprise they split but having said that the number of FJ issues on here is a cause for concern and I would be am a tad worried about this as I'm looking at some Icons for 2014

Is the right answer. I've got 5 pairs of Footjoys and I look after them all as if they're new. My oldest pair, softjoy brogues , are over 20 years old and I still use them. Proper clean, proper treatment and they will see you well for many years.

I strongly recommend NickWax. You can get it in good Outdoor/Walking gear shops, it waterproofs, protects and preserves the leather.
