Repairing damage on green

Blimey. Post a thread, go to work, & come home to this. But thanks for clarifying. It's as I thought but sometimes there's a little nugget in the rules hidden away somewhere. For the record, I usually do inform/ask - mainly to re-assure myself that I'm not infringing. Ok, a pitch mark is usually obvious but there are times when you want to be sure.

Good read though...

It's very simple guest100718, if you notify your playing partners of your intentions then you remove any possibility of a misunderstanding.

I really don't understand your reluctance to do so. You are potentially leaving yourself open to accusation by not doing so. Some of the people you have played with in the past may consider you a cheat because your actions were unclear to them.

I have witnessed a guy in the past 'repairing a pitchmark' when in fact he was actually tapping down spike marks.

It's your choice though.

Please accept my apologies for not reading every post on this thread

Surprised at you rulefan, for someone with your knowledge of the rules I would have thought you'd want to be seen as whiter than white.

How hard is it to say "Pitchmark here on my line, just going to repair it" and give your partner the opportunity to check it if he so wishes?

As I (purport to) know the rules, I follow them to the letter. Not hard to say something but not necessary.
I doubt if my partner would be concerned. ;)
But if my FC or opponent wishes, he doesn't have to wait to be asked.

It could be confusing to members I have lectured in the clubhouse about a rule requiring them to inform their marker (say), if they then see me informing someone if it is not required. They may think that if I do it, it is compulsory.

But each to his own in this case.

Golf's a difficult enough game without having to wear multiple hats!

Possibly why John Paramor is not a very good Golfer!

I always advise my playing partners be it in matchplay , medal or any other competition of my intention to repair any pitch marks on or near my line of putt , it just makes clear my intentions , if unsure I seek their agreement before I carry out any repairs , if there is any dispute then I just leave it unless there is a ref with us . saves being called a cheat or whispers in the club house about you or you get unlucky and get a golfer that will call a penalty on you as some golfers want to win by any means and will pull you up on it just to cause an argument to throw you off your game , don't laugh it does happen ........................EYG

Now there's where I might agree with 'your' Death Squads being useful!
