The opportunity has arisen where our company is looking at a major expansion in oz and as such is looking to recruit successful key staff from the uk, I applied out of general interest after a discussion with the misses and it seems via a positive report back from the right people I've been called forward for a first level open day and casual interview with the misses,

I'm lucky enough that our company is one of the strongest in its market in the uk with over 450 outlets, several manufacturing companies which we own so I know the stability is there financially that I'm not going to get half way around the world and the company is going to fold.

I'm looking for some advise as to what questions I should be asking on the open day to the right people so to speak, I'm lucky enough that the misses is very highly credited with qualifications in her field although she may need some short courses to get up to regulation out there, but I need to know I've covered everything before making any snap decisions,

Any help or useful Info is welcome with much appreciation,

I bet you'll be big down under!!

Having had only 2 interviews in 46 years Baz, I don't think I'll be much help but I do wish you the best, you're a great guy and I'm sure you'll be an asset out there.

Thanks pin seeker we were planning on starting a family next year and I can't think of a better time to do it, the good thing is through sponsorship I should end up with dual nationality as it's long term contract, but likewise I don't want to go out with blinkered vision thinking everything is roses so to speak.

Thanks chris, I'm not counting my chickens yet but but things are looking promising .;)

The one thing we found is that making "long term " friendships can be harder abroad as you are new on the block and most folks already have their own circles they move in, might be different for you guys being younger than us.
Don't under estimate how much you'll miss family. Or how they'll react, not always positive, had major falling out with a brother over our move .
Always accept invitations to social events.
Basically get out there and enjoy yourself :D

Sounds like this is a new venture for the company so I would be asking about long term plans, projected expansion, market share, career progression, stability, permanent move or secondment.......stuff like that. Also, location would be good to know, tell 'em you want Sydney or Melbourne!! :D

I've got friends in Melbourne and Sydney already, all of the above questions are already ones that are going through my head and chalked down!

I'm lucky that I'm quite social and mix in a wide range of circles from all walks ok life, that's one thing I love about this sport, you mix with all types. As I've said to hid in principle, it doesn't matter whether your relocating in Scotland of oz, relocating is going to mean you need to make a conscious effort to accept all invites and get yourself out there so to speak.

Wonderful opportunity

My best friend and his Gf went travelling there in 1998 - they are still there now - married with two kids

It doesn't suit everyone because some don't like to feel so far aware from their families here

Great place to go to. Whereabouts you thinking of going to? I have a mate that lives on the Joondalup golf resort in Perth and it is fantastic, Peter With the ex Aston Villa striker does as well. Take plenty of sun cream as it gets hot and I mean really hot. I went once and the temp did not drop below 80 degrees for 2 full weeks which made the main part of the day unbearable for me it was well over 100.

As above with regards to family. I worked in the Czech Republic for a year and it was pretty tough only getting back every 6 weeks or so but that depends on how well you get on with your family.

Another aspect is money. Make sure you have enough to live comfortably and have plenty of "treats" as if things are marginally tight then it won't be long until the arguments start (been there ;) ). Just don't come across as mercenary...

After all that the worst that happens is you go out there and hate it. You can always come back pretty easily.

I'm lucky enough that from what I'm led to believe the expansion multi state, so I pretty much get to request locations that would suit me, I have friends in Queensland and also Melbourne so it's looking like one of them being the most likely

Two friends of mine moved to OZ in September. They came back for Xmas, but love it out there.

Do they come back every Christmas chris or just random ones
