Recycling old balls.

Can I just point out that recycling actually really winds me up!

My missus makes me do it and it is so bloody annoying... particularly since the council decided to have about 20 different bins/schedules for picking up the junk!

connor its not a dig at you, but this is my point, if you add up how many bals are used worldwide, i think as a industry something should be done so we are seen to been green so to speak. how long before some green peace environmental protestor starts protesting and we lose courses due to it.

ok this sounds a bit extreme, but motosports have seen restrictions due to clean films thayt go over your safety goggles or helmet visors littering surrounding areas.

nah i no its not a dig at me bud. I dont buy new balls anyway i ebay mine in big bundles so mine are all ready lost and lying around before i get my hands on them and generally re-lose them.

to be fair i think alot of golfers tend to pick balls up if they are just lying around. If half decent i will quite happily play with them if not to damaged or worn. Where i used to play i used to see people randomly walking around in the OOB areas with plastic bags collecting them which did make me chuckle.

fire a few dozen into your toilet cistern, use less water and become an environmental hero..

This is one idea I'll use, sounds like a good thread for a magazine competition on alternative uses for old golf balls.
How about keeping them in your calvin kleins to impress the ladies? ;)

sweet 200 donnay titaniums on their way to you wull... your be carrying 300yards plus with these badboys!

How did you get to possess 200 Donnay Titaniums in the first place?

I tend to lose balls too quickly to even consider what to do with old ones- I'm thrilled if I finish a round with the same ball I started with! I lost 4 today and two of those were only hit once.

Gaz, i was being a little sarcastic. ;)

the point is as a rule i pick up every ball i see, whether it be a prov in mint nick, or a donnay thats chewed to bits, if its a ball that can be used its a bonus, if not then effectively its litter. But i do think we should look at alternative uses for our old chewed up balls.

Like many i try to use my balls for 2/3 rounds if its lucky, but after that its ready for the bin, but when you think how many balls are chewed up sitting in peoples garages or landfill sites, there must be a better use for them. Fair play to BP for using some sort of initiative , i may speak with the ranges i use and see if they old crappers are anygood to them. or what they actually do with their old crapper.s

how long before some green peace environmental protestor starts protesting and we lose courses due to it.

my guess would be an awfully long time and no couses closed.

Of all the things to get your knickers in a twist over this is by far the most bizarre.

To apply the logic here, and revisit the content of a thread from a few days ago...

If I go on a ball hunt at a course and someone accuses me of theft, I can point out that I am, in fact, litter picking. Happy days :D

you could argue it... but when you have a bag of shiny new balls your arguement may not stand.

Our course has started having a used ball for sale section in the pro shop, whether these are balls collected on our course or balls outsourced is another matter.

Why should the pro be allowed to make money out of balls that belong to the golf club? He is an employee, I am a member, so if there is a profit to be made, it should be made by the club, which in effect, is me. I want a cut.
