Recently got fitted for Mizuno MP5, advice please!

Do you remember the figures from the fitting, like launch angle, spin and peak height?

Yes a fair bit(bold section), not only will it bring launch down but also spin, maybe around 1000 rpm. Trouble is, you start taking too much loft off a blade and you start to change the bounce and with such a small sole it might be a little odd with turf interaction.

PX is a funny shaft, some players spin it a lot an others with the same SS spin it very little so there is no stock answer. If your spinning the 6 iron around 6k or a little below, down as much as 5k then the height is no big deal and you will be optimizing the club pretty well. X100 is on the Mizuno list and is very different to PX 6.5... The PX is a counterbalanced shaft, weight in the butt and X100 is more throughout the shaft. I would be very tempted to spend some time hitting the MP 5 with the X100.

It is acceptable to move loft to help flight but moving it 2* to accommodate a shaft your already not sure about it maybe something to think about.

If I were a naturally high ball player (and I am) I would look for a shaft that spins low and not worry too much about peak height. I assume the 6200 you mention is with stock lofts?

PS can I have your MP 64? :D

Stock lofts yes. Mine are 1* strong.

Looking to abuse double trade in! You can have them if you want but there's some rusting on the shafts, wouldn't be happy if I was to buy them!

had PX 6.5s previously, tried the 7.0s at the time and they are seriously harsh. In hindsight personally think at the stiffer end of the spectrum there are better shafts out there (i use a variant of the KBS these days and dont need it anywhere as stiff as I had the PX). if you are hitting the 6.5s too high I would be tempted to look to have a lesson rather than an even stiffer shaft

based on what you have said there is no way you should be buying the spec of clubs you are talking about, at best it would be a guess if they are right for you, personally would find time for another (proper) fitting and start from scratch (and try and do it blind so you dont know what shaft you are hitting)

I've moved at the start of the year from 64s to mp5 5-pw. My 6 iron speed is 90-93 mph. I like the feel but was slightly injured when I was fitted by Simon the mizuno rep. He knows my swing as I've played with him before and been fitted by him.
My 64s were px100 but because of the look and feel of the 5s I didn't want to go full at them so went with x100 soft stepped once.

The look good, but after a month or sos bag chatter they don't look the same !

I'm going again to try the px 6.5 and 7.0, look at the numbers and see. To be honest the 7.0 is more curiosity.

I may need to get head covers. Much as I don't want to be that guy!

Its worth having a look at the Ctaper, i think they do heavier ones too. a guy i play with has the 130X and he hits the ball miles (over 300 carry with driver) they feel a bit dead until you get used to them.

i used s300 before and though the ball flight was a bit higher with the ctaper, its more penetrating and get 5+ yards extra carry

I tried them and had that exact problem, everything felt rotten.

When I got my new irons I was stuck between the MP5 and the MP15. Behind the ball there is no real difference in looks, but what swayed me was the 15s having that little bit more forgiveness in them. I went from having X-100 in my 712MB to having the C-Taper 120 Stiff. If you like the X100, which had been my choice of shafts for years, you will like the C-taper 120 stiff. I found it to have a similar launch, but the C-taper generated a bit more backspin.

Before making your final decision go and try the MP15 with the C-Taper shaft. I think you will like them

Don't be tempted to go up a flex to bring your ball flight down. I didn't this when I purchased my MP5 (x100)under recommendation and I lost distance and feel. I ended up having another fitting somewhere else, then took my irons back under the 30days satisfaction and told them what specs I wanted. I handed back one set and had a brand knew set 6days later.

I love the MP5 (C-taper stiff 120) and I went for 4-PW, they sit nice, perform well and I haven't hit a 4 iron that well in 4-5years. They are more forgiving than the Adams CMB I had before.

Me and Cookelad compared my MP5 to his MP4 side by side and there's not a massive amount of difference looks wise when there on the ground.
