Ok folks, I'm looking at targets for the year and thinking what's realistic.
Off 12 at the minute, but was 10 last year and just had a bad year. Also feel like my driving is getting back on track and short game getting there.....
So this is what I'm thinking -
1. Get down to 9,
2. Make the uslter cup team
3. Win a medal
4. Win a summer knockout

Over to you..

Get to nine James and you wont need to worry about the ulster cup ;)

Realistic targets for me: build on my progress from late last year with my 100-30 yarders and continue back down to my starting handicap of 6 when I joined (pre baby boom!).

I have never had a proper handicap, but now that I have joined a club, I would like to get an official one, and my aim by the end of the summer (September) is 18.How often can you have your handicap updated? Once I have handed in the required 3 signed cards, can I hand a new one in as often as possible, what do other people do?Alex

You need to play in qualifier competitions for our handicap to be adjusted, though there is a supplementary card thing but I'm not sure how that works.

My main aim as ever will be to continue enjoying my golf. I am however also determined to get my h/c down to at least 16 and feel that if I have a very good year maybe lower...BUT I am not going to put any pressure on myself. If it happens, great but if not then negative thinking will have stopped me!

I'd also like to break 80. Wonder if there's anything GM and Ping could do about that?

My targets for the year:

Get to 18 within the first couple of months and then try and get down as close to 15 as possible. I'm feeling very confident about all aspects of my game so hopefully that should be realistic.
Win a couple of medals
I'd like to play in the Summer knockouts
Maybe unrealistic, but win a major and get into the Brampton Masters

Once the snow goes, game on.

to get back to cat1(cat2 at pres.)to regain the two major comps i won last year to get into the clubs team and to finish in the top 10 of the clubs order of merit.

Enter every qualifying competition going and submit as many supplementaries as you like - that way you will find your handicap level very quickly.

Get cut to less than 15
Win at least one medal

If everything goes to plan and I change clubs, I will be playing more golf so hopefully these are realistic.

This will be my first full year.......I would like to score consistently under a 100! other than that, just to continue to enjoy it as much as I do now, no pressure just "loving it" :fore:

Back to category 1 handicap, Break par in a comp round my home course, Play at least 30 other courses apart from my home course, play at least 5 "away" comps, stay fully fit for the year

Dont know really. Just completed my first year and won 3 comp's and got my handicap down from 26 to 21 so i suppose I would like to at least match that.

Possibly semi's in the summer 4 ball knock out, win a monthly medal and try to pick up another comp or two and maybe get my handicap down to 18ish? It's hard to know what can be achieved really, I'd like to get under 18, closer to the 15 mark but dont want to give myself unrealistic expectations.

Very interesting timing of this post for me. I made a decision over Christmas to focus heavily on my short game this year. I was lucky to get some new wedges for Christmas and had my first pitching lesson today. It opened my eyes to a number of changes I need to make. So my focus this year is to improve my pitching, bunker play, chipping and putting. If I can do that I'll be a happy, happy man :)

Lasy year I managed to get down to 4 but only for a short time, so this year I want to get to 4 again and try and keep it there for the season.
