Read this if you're going to the OPEN, Muirfiled....Gullane.

Generally speaking the train and bus scenario works well for Opens in Scotland.
Not sure about Gullane but Drem is only two miles away and I think the police close the Drem/Gullane road to all except buses.
Road comes out at the Fire Training School which is opposite the entry to the club.

Scotrail have a train/bus offer on. Price is normal off peak ticket + £5, buses from Drem to the course. £5 return on the bus is a bit rich though.

When you going Iain?

Sunday Martin, looking forward to it. Went all week last time it was there due to it being on my doorstep so a good excuse to see some friends and take in the golf!

Train from Edinburgh may well be the best bet then and get the shuttle from Drem.

i seen shoes in the main shop but nothing big. Didn't see anywhere to buy clubs altho i did see a woman walking about with a mizuno 825 driver in a bag. Maybe there was something by the swing zone area but i never looked in that area when i was there on tuesday.

It's all about money. Mizuno are the main people at this open, the rest must not have come up with the cash. Same with the official open wear......Ralph Lauren, if you dont like the price then you don't have any other choice. They can stick it..........

yeah i looked around the Ralph Lauren stuff. What a joke the prices were. There was no one looking in that section when i was in.

Peter Allis is currently railing against the obscene prices of everything there and the lack of golf merchandise and equipment there to buy. With the numbers being a lot down yesterday perhaps the R&A have misjudged this one a bit?

If there looks like a play off on Sunday, here is a wee tip that worked out very well for us on the last Open at Muirfield.

Let the last pairing go through and then grab the back seats on the stand behind the 16th green.
You can see all the shots except 17th green and 18th hole.
A pair of binoculars are probably handy as well
