so whats the best route from West Scotland before having to obey the 'OPEN' travel signs? should I use satnav to a certain point first?

I would suggest M8 to Hermiston Gate, Edinburgh Bypass the onto A1 and off at Gullane and follow traffic signs, I really cant see anything easier if taking the car right to Muirfield. Other than that go off at Musselburgh and park at the train station and get the train to Drem.

In the 1960's, at morning assembly 500 North Berwick High School pupils would recite ...'and lead us not into Dremstation'.

I'm going on Sunday with the Wife and my folks. We're hoping to be able to park in a friends driveway to avoid the rush at the end, but I'm under no illusions that driving home will be a 'mare.

I just booked flights from London and accom for the weekend as only just cleared it with work. Got scalped to say the least but worth it for the experience I guess.

Anyone got any tips on stuff to take with them? This is my first open, spending sat and sun at the course. Had been planning to take a rucksack with waterproofs, bt fingers crossed so far the rain is staying away, not sure what else I would need.......other than a few cold beers which I plan on buying. Also whats you guys preferred method on here do you pick a spot and stay all day or do you follow groups? It probably comes down to who is paired with who on Sat, but we will prob follow a group and do a bit of sitting once we find a gd spot.

Choice of shoes is very important!

I'm staying with a friend out Dalkeith way.

Better to drive and park and ride in a field somewhere or get the train from Edinburgh? Was much easier when I lived 5 minutes away the last time it was there!

Generally speaking the train and bus scenario works well for Opens in Scotland.
Not sure about Gullane but Drem is only two miles away and I think the police close the Drem/Gullane road to all except buses.
Road comes out at the Fire Training School which is opposite the entry to the club.
