Don't know what was wrong with the range balls today. They are usually 20 yards shorter than my nxt's but today I was 50 yards down on my drives. I tee'd up an nxt and the difference was frightening.

The balls werent particularly wet or dirty so what would cause this?

Probably the air temp, range balls are made of concrete and you cant compress them in the cold, nxt's are quite soft in contrast so you can compress them and get some energy transfer.
No other reason offered except maybe you were really playing pish with the range balls then found your swing with the Titless's!

Yeah nice one, Birdieman. Howsabout applying your skills to the Israeli problem? Have it sorted out in quicktime.

Otherwise, a good answer, though!

There's no feeling quite as bad a spotting a ball in the rough, getting shredded by gorse or bramble, only to find it's actually a range ball with 2 stripes across it, such a let down! Why do people take these abominations on the course and not leave them at the range where they belong?

Maybe we should buy a range holder!! NOT!
Yes you are made to feel like a criminal as you skulk through the pro shop trying to convince the assistant that the clubs in hand are actually your own and you haven't just lifted them from the shop bargain bin.
Somebody sometime clearly paid for a bucket of 40 and deviantly bagged them all thinking he was ingenious, meaning the rest of us have to suffer attempting to carry 10 sticks in one hand whilst trying to operate a wallet with the other hand to pay for the range balls, taking out brolley and putter racks etc and prodding passers by! It's a hopeless state of affairs really, hence I gave up ranges and now take a shagbag(where did they get that name?) of balls to the local cricket pitch and get to hit off real grass and it's free - much better!

There are some decent ranges about. One of the ones I use makes use of balls found on the course rather than range balls. Nice to see them going to a good cause rather than being sold back to me in the pro-shop (again, would be happy with that if the money went to charity or to fund juniors or some other cause). Also bags are aloud, as are trolleys if you are hitting a few before going on the course.

Maybe you are not allowed to take your bag in case you buy a small basket of 25 balls and tip out your Ping Tour Bag and hit 300 used duffers that were stashed in it. I have a scene from Monsters Inc in my head when the 16 year old balls washer notices a non-conforming range ball, otherweise known as a REAL ball.

Lockdown, cross contamination team called in to remove the REAL ball thus preventing a disaster i.e. us wanting a better standard of rangey.

I found a wee yellow ball in my mums hut that had 'STOLEN FROM STRATHCLYDE PARK GOLF RANGE' ON IT. Would I be looking at a stretch inside if I got caught with it?

Madandra I'm intrigued as to why your mum has a hut? The last time I had a hut I was about 11.
I've alerted the Police about your stolen ball already, better get down the course as there's no golf in Barlinnie!

1. I hate range balls, but I look for accuracy rather than distance.
2. I would like to take my bag on....but I can see the problem.
3. WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH THESE SKYSCRAPER TEES?.....the lowest I could find the other day was about 7 cm high!!
I hit 80% mid irons.....can we not have a few 1 cm tees, or are driving ranges just for the wallys who want to show off with their big boys toys.....come on!!!! No wonder beginners can't hit it off the grass.....

PS, - a 9 wood goes about 175-180, not that anyone cares.....

PPS, - I phoned crime-stoppers about the stolen ball.....it certainly would be a crime to steal range balls and actually use them!!

PPPS, - I also hit balls off the mat, no really, shocking...even 3 woods!!!

At Bridlington Links it's the crows. My Dad was playing the 9 hole and had a ball swiped. It flew off somewhere with it and dumped it I assume.

Blimey OOB you'll need to stick a 12 bore in the golf bag next time, sort those thieving crows out, imagine if it was a new ProV1!
The crows are welcome to range balls though.

We used to have a crow on the first who was partial to golf balls. It all came to a head one day when he stole three out of four drives in one fourball. They complained to the committee, who got one of the members to shoot it.
The idiot who did the shooting got all dressed up like he was going on a grouse shoot. What a ***.

At the range i use the owner breeds rottweilers dogs and when the range is closed im sure he lets the dogs loose because the balls are absolutely crud.most split and ruined.annoyed me last nite so i just kicked the crap ones rather than waste my cheapy clubs on them.the only reason i use the place is because he has a car at 150yds and its a sweet feeling to smack it with split 20 yr old twin stripe cruddy range ball.on the other hand the range i take lessons at has pukka balls and not a dog in sight.
