Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

For an event ravaged by the huge stars who opted out, the current leaderboard has some decent names on. I s'pose it'll muddle through 😁😁😁
For the sake of accuracy, no-one "opted out"; players were suspended indefinitely by the PGA Tour.
Big names at the top also doesn't stop it from being the weakest field at the Players for over 20 years.

They knew they'd be suspended, so de facto they did. But they were more than well compensated for it. But of course you're the expert!πŸ˜‰ So please accept my apologies for expressing an opinion.

Given the current wobbly state of rankings, the point being made was, "Are there sufficient decent players on show to make it a decent event. "

I'd say it is, with room to spare. But of course you can disagree. It doesn't change much.

Its still the 5th strongest field tournament going. Followed by the 8 Signature events. No ET, LIV, or Asian tour events are even close to them. Next best are the handful of co sanctioned ET events. The players will never be a major. But it is the Fifth Tournament. Weaker than it was, for the 10 or 15 players on LIV that would other wise be there. But thats still outranking any LIV event by a factor of at least 5. And the best of the ET events by 2 or 3. Its 90% a major - but will never rank with them. The majors a unchangeable at this point. That the womens majors are mutable, highlights their lower value. The mens majors are invulnerable now to any reassignment, and impregnable to any addition.

Anyone else enjoy The Players and enjoy Sawgrass, but find all the talk of Pete Dye / It was a swamp / background of the course very uninteresting?

Do you know, no other architect other than Pete Dye would have been able to design a golf course on this piece of land, it's a flat featureless swamp.

There are of course hundreds of golf courses in Florida built on flat featureless swamps. But Sawgrass is the winningest, the flattest and the featurelessest.

It was the swampiest swamp beforehand though
