Popped into the AG in Nottingham to have a look at 3 woods.

Brought my old Taylor Made V steel with its x stiff shaft in so that I could compare it with any potential purchase on the monitor.

Guy says "I'm sorry sir, no one carries X stiff anymore. It would have to be a custom purchase." So they want me to buy a club to try it out and I asked him as much? Next option is to come down to a manufacturer event and try it then (one manufacturer at a time?!) as they would carry the different shafts?

So didn't even swing a club to try and no purchase made. I'll not bother with them then.

been like that for years, maybe carry one x flex for a product and thats it, if you need x flex you need a better fitter. remember filling in for a 3 wood fit at our local one for GM at short notice and they basically had one x flex shaft in the shop at the time

Pretty much same response as I got in American Golf Lincoln (Thorpe on the Hill, where Direct Golf used to be). Except I wasn't in the market for anything so exotic, just a Regular shaft, lower lofted/lower launching hybrid. I brought my old adams 3h to test against something and he said pretty much everything they had there on the shelf was designed to lanuch the ball up, so it'd be a custom fit job or manufacturer event.

Bought one off ebay in the end. It's a thing of beauty. Looking forward to getting it on the links this weekend :)

Surely AG will have the full fitting cart of all the new major OEM lines which will contain X flex shafts. Swingspeeds around 105 and up are not exactly the rarest anymore. Probably just a lazy sod that couldn't be bothered screwing a shaft into some heads

That's bad that mate. The AG closest to me has a swing room , trackman and you're hitting out onto a driving range. They have fitting carts from all the major manufacturers with all the shafts to try. Looks to me like the Nottingham store needs to get its finger out and get up to speed !

Same in my AG to be honest, though i only have X in the driver.

I suppose its a supply and demand thing. I imagine that only a very, very small pot of amateur golfers need an X flex in reality.

Mind you on the flip side i always wondered why the vast majority of Stiff irons seem to have s300 as the default option. I mean its a very meaty, heavy shaft that might be pretty unsuitable to he majority of golfers. Mind you i am in no way a shaft guru so i could be talking rubbish. Also its probably a subject for another thread, im not trying to divert sorry.

Sorry to hijack the thread temporarily but while we're on the subject of AG, I was hoping to go there on Friday and trade in my G15 driver for one of their big pre-owned selection, but I think I read that they only take trade-ins for new clubs, not pre-owned - does anyone know if that's correct?

Yep, according to their T&C's it's only against new clubs.

Ah well, that's annoying. Might have to stick the G15 on ebay then.

I got a kids set of golf clubs for young Bradley tash for Christmas partchopping in a Titleist three wood at AG. Whilst there I had a look at there 2nd hand stuff which had been chopped in. Most of it looked scabby very scabby, don't think you have lost out at all. Ironically it was the Nottingham branch I went to what the op is on about.

Having had lessons and club fitting on flight trackers eg Golf support and at ranges like Norwood and Ping HQ which also show all data. Don't think I would ever buy a club again without going to a range. There is just summat about seeing the flight of a real ball that tickles my tonsils.

What are you hoping to get from a different driver? Before you get rid of your G15 (isn't that renowned as one of the most forgiving drivers ever?), be sure to try it against others. You might well find there is no better driver for you.

I say this based on my own experience of trying out new drivers: Taylor Made M2, Callaway Epic, Ping GLS & GSF. None of them were any more forgiving than my existing Mizuno MX700, and none of them went more than 10 yards further. I'm not shelling out £300+ for 10 measly yards!

I went into 3 AG's over the last week looking for a 5 wood & some sort of driving iron (2 or 3 iron for off the tee) as I have a bit of gap in my clubbing. They only had Callaway 5 woods and 1 ping driving iron over 3 stores. I had wanted to try out out a few, and everyone says go test them, but they just don't have the stock so ended up not getting anything despite having the money ready to go. The response was either a half hearted "we're getting more stock in next week" or "nobody uses 5 woods/driving irons anymore."

Was planning to test Ping/Titleist/TayloreMade/Callaway/Mizuno and anything else against each other and buy what came out best. Wasn't expecting exotic shafts but thought at least regular/stiff. Big anti-climax when you find out nothing in stock :(

Get the feeling manufactures are bringing out so many versions of each club even AG can't keep up never mind local Pro's. Ended up disappointed but not sure its particularly an AG issue as can't think of any other store up here that keeps decent range outwith specialist days.

Are ALL fittings done with a standard size grip? I found it awkward that all the shaft choices were fitted with standard size grips when I was fitted. I need at least an oversize grip to get my hands in correct position due to my long fingers, therefore standard grips affect my swing and hence my fitting could be flawed.

It's not more forgiveness I'm after, but after a Titleist Thursday fitting the other week I've decided to go back to a 12°, and the Ping is 10.5. That's the crux of it anyway. With my swing I get a lot more carry with a 12°. I'm planning to try out whatever pre-owned 12°'s they had in really. Or a new one if they have any real bargains.
