Our stableford competitions, almost all of our competitions are stabs, are held in hcp groups roughly
A: -11
B: 12-19
C: 18-28
D: 29+
with prices for group winners but the overall winner is the one with the highest gross stableford points

That is a good idea extra prize for best gross score because the best golfer should be rewarded. The best competition to win and the one i aim to win one day is the club championship scratch winner and then you know you are the best. We all have dreams :)

my dream, too, but admittedly i have never won a gross price. in my club it requires usually between 31 and 34 stableford points and that's tough for a 12 handicapper. once i shot 33 points only to finish 2nd

Errr it shouldnt be. Even 3 over would give you 33pts, which off 12, shouldnt be that dfficult, apart from rare complete blow-outs !

ChrisMc meant 3 over his h/cap of 12, ie: 15 over par. Easily do able.

I agree, but 32 - 33 points off scratch is not easily do-able he was talking about the overall scratch winner !

Well i'm going to stick up for the high handicappers here and have a pop at low handicappers!

I played the PGA & Brabazon at The Belfry today and yesterday, both days we had small cash prizes for 1st place & 2nd place stableford, nearest pin & longest drive.

In the group on 10 we had a guy playing off 3, someone off 6 and the rest of us between 14 and 24. The guy playing off 3 cleaned up 1st place both days with gross par on both courses, the lad off 6 had about 32 points & 29 respectively and the most anyone else had was my 30 points on the PGA, the next highest on the Brabazon was my 28!!

How can we possibly compete with scoring like that?

[quoteMurph, depends how much snow he has to putt through :)

Snow has finally gone, our course opened today !!!!!
But weekend weather forecast miserable: rain and gale-force winds. I have booked a tee time for next saturday though. I am very curious to try my new grips, Santa put on my clubs. Maybe they make it easy to shoot 33 points off scratch
