Played on a new course for me today (Traditions-Pyrford).My game completely went to pot.I either pared the hole or took a seven or worse (24 points). There were a lot of water hazards on the course, which i visited most of.The wind was blowing hard which did not help, but it was nice to get out.

My question would be,the first time you play a new course do you find it difficult to play your normal game?

First timers are different in that you either have no fear and use driver everywhere or wind it back and only use the driver where you can see you wont run into trouble.

I love playing new courses and more often than not i score better on my 1st round than any of the next few times i play there.

Its the no fear thing....not knowing where hazards are i take a slightly gung ho approach to things!

Doesn't Pyford have water on 17 holes?

I normally play better on new courses (except links), as I concentrate more.

For links courses I think it takes time to adjust to the conditions and the lack of a level lie.

I always try and get a strokesaver (even a crappy one like Lydd) but at the risk of opening an old can of worms, this is where SC and other GPS devices come into their own.

At Lydd, we invariably couldn't see the correct line of the tee with no reference points at all. At least with SC we knew that the bunkers was xx and the water began at xx

Out of interest what was the course like. Its pretty close to me and somewhere I've fancied playing. I know others like HTL aren't too far away in Leatherhead so maybe we could get a 4ball arranged

Homer, I played it once, and the non stop water is too much. Gets a bit Mickey Mouse in my opinion. Too short, in the drink, too long, in the drink, too left, in the , heck, you get the message. Every flippin hole.
