Playing off whites.....

we tend to play off the whites once they go on at the start of April/End March. Only really only play the yellows though the winter.

I always think best to practice from medal tees as those are the ones that matter... Sometimes play of yellows tho if have a guest or if time is going to be tight for the round

I tend to play of the whites on my saturday morning knocks with friends ! It helps me improve my game and gives me confidence of my ability (or lack of it) if I enter a comp!

the whites are not available at the moment as we are playing a winter course but think we will be starting again in a few weeks

Where possible yes. It annoys me the some courses don't allow visitors to play off the back tees (despite ability).

A number of times I've played top courses and left feeling like I didn't get the full experience as tees were so far forward

We play off the whites once it gets to mid March and go back to the yellows round October.

Although our whites on non-comp days tend to be moved forward a bit to save wear and tear on the most brutal of setups faced with a card in your mitts.

We have two courses, one has the back tees removed through the winter the other always has back tees. Always play off the back tees, makes so much difference on one of our courses some back tees being 50-60 yards longer so good to practice off them ready for the comps

We're not allowed to play off the whites unless it in competition.
To be fair, there's only 1 hole where it actually makes a difference that would change your club, only 80+ yards between white and yellow mileage...

Only allowed in comps at our place, totally wrong imo, members should be able to choose which Tees they use when playing outside comps.

Same here, i actually prefer the white tees all but one hole which is SI 1, tee shot through a funnel of trees requiring a fade
doesn't suit me

Play of the tee of the day as determined by the greenkeepers. White tees are left for comps only

We have at least 5 holes were it makes a big difference to the hole either by distance or shape.

The White tees at my place are kept for competions only but then behind them we got blues too which makes the course a different animal all together both can only be used in competion play

Obviously a bottle of red is not helping my views here. But this is the bit that is doin my head in.
i asked the other day if this is the toughest time of the year to play. Bearing in mind I have not played on the Q white tees yet. But, our whites tees which we are allowed to play on all year round were moved up to the women's/reds on some holes and most whites were white/ yellow tees. Then all of a sudden in one day whites are moved back 40-50 yd behind the yellows on some holes and even further on par fives now Q has started.
but why do some courses allow white tee playing and some don't. How does a governing body ( R an A) allow a " do what you like" from course to course depending on how the green keepers see it.
For the record, we always play off the whites, feel it has more positives than negatives.

Can only play off the whites from Friday's at midday, over the weekend and bank holidays. Unless there is a competition, obviously. There are a few holes in makes a big difference to the hole, and the course is a couple of hundred yards longer.

Would always much prefer to play a course off its proper yardage
