Playing off whites

Fingers crossed the Cooden forum meet will be off the whites...

No need to.
They'll only let you play off the yellows on a Society Day.
Their thinking is that not all the players in a Society are going to be single figure golfers who hit it 300 yards so they want everybody to have a good day.
Hit a 5 wood or 3 iron off the tee (yellow) instead
;)

Seeing as there is precisely 88 yrds between white and yellow tee courses at my place it doesn't make a lot of odds which tee you play off. Only one hole is there a significant difference and that's only 22 yards.

Comps are off the whites, general play off the yellows but as I say it doesn't make a real difference.

Not sure what the craic is at mine but for knocks we usually play yellows but play par 3's from whites,I think all casual visitors play from the yellows with the exeption of low handicappers who make a request to play whites. If societies played off whites they would be out there all day as it must be tough enough for them from the yellows seeing as it takes the majority of them a bloody age to get round!

Comps wise we have Blue tees that stretch the course out to over 6800yrds but sadly unless you play league matches or scratch club championship you never play off them which in my opinion is a total and utter joke.

We did have a few competitions off them a few years back but the choppers and old boys were greeting that the carries were too long and the course too hard for them so that was the end of that!! :(

Those blue tees are something this year I have never played off which is a farce.....might see if we can get off them for the Ryder Cup Forum game....that'll sort oot the men from the boys! ;)

At our course you can play off whites whenever, but the back blue tee's are for comps only. They dont make the course much longer, but bring the hazards much more into play.

I.E Our first is a dogleg right over a water hazard at 190yrd over the entire fairway, push it right and your into a wood and push it left and your into the lake. Off the blues it 230 to carry the hazard and laying up you cant get a good line into the green which is protected by a 9 foot high bunker.

Whites are available for members play. Societies play off yellows.

That said, the whites move back anything up to 60 yards for the comps. So normal whites aren't 'whites'.

Completely agree with Murph here........Our whites were used in a medal last weekend and on 8 of our holes they played just a yard in front of our blue championship tees.......It was playing very long......

Having said that i always play off the whites regardless of there position.....

Cooden used to be very confusing as they had three sets of mens tees, whites, blues and yellows. Off the whites and blues, par was 72, but off the yellows, 2 par 5's became impossible par 4's (for us mere mortals) and par dropped to 70.
The whites and blues were for members only, with yellows set aside for visitors. When we used to visit for the day, what we would do was tee off the yellow on the 1st (to keep the pro happy) but then move on to the blues for the rest of the round. We didn't like those long par 4's and the 2nd was the first one of them!!
Having now received the scorecards through for our visit next Friday it's nice to see that they have done away with the blue tees altogether, moved the yellow tees back to where the blue tees used to be and have adjusted par for the course to be 72 off both sets of tees. Makes it much easier to understand, and still gives the bigger hitters a chance to make those two par 5's in two shots. I think it's much fairer like this.
Yardages off both sets of tees are now 6,185 from the yellows and 6,504 off the whites. Still a good test of golf, it's not like there is 800 yards difference between the sets of tees, only 325 yards or so.
