Playing Hankley Common tomorrow.........

Lovely course, one of those where you need to be really straight. Some memorable par 3s...one very, very tastey carvery.

Not played there, but every one says it is nice. Enjoy it, and report back.

An absolutely stunning course Murph, and if you like heath and heather courses I would recommend it. The tees were in superb condition, the fairways were like carpets and the greens....without a shadow of doubt some of the nicest greens I have ever putted on. Very quick (especially in the afternoon when they had dried out) and ran really true.
The course has a LOT of heather, I was lucky on the first 8 holes in the morning because I found the fairways/greens and was scoring really well.. But my first blob of the day came at the 9th where, the the first time, my driver played up and I hit a big pull left into the dreaded. Instead of using my noddle, taking my medicine and hacking out sideways I went chasing my score. Three more attempted hacks out, a chip and missed putt saw me rack up a bloody 7!! Still 18 points on the front 9 with a blob wasn't bad going. Continued to play "reasonable" golf on the back 9 and stood on 17 with 32 points under my belt. If I could just make bogie, par on the closing two holes that would give me 37 points and I would be a happy bunny...
Then a funny thing happened. I found heather off of both tees and ended up carding blob, blob

So 32 points with 3 blobs. Could have been so much better but just confirms how penal the rough is there. All three blobs were due to finding heather off the tee and bad play from there on in.

But the course itself was superb as I say. I would love to go back and play it again (but not 36!!)
The welcome in the clubhouse was first class, the starter (can't remember his name now) was an absolute diamond, giving us a few playing tips (he's been a member there for 28 years) and the food was some of the best society fare I have ever eaten. And the puds!! Load your plate up and waddle out to the first.
Highly recommended course.
