Played my 1st medal last night

I would have thought that a first handicap of 13/14 is relatively unusual without some previous playing/handicap history. You don't have to be a forummer on here for very long to note that most first awards are in the 20s.

Dunno about that. I played for about 8 years casually without a handicap so about 10 years ago when I got my first one it was 14... I have then yo-yo'd around that area for that duration...
You don't have to play in comps to play good golf worthy of a mid-teens handicap, just playing with friends every week will help you improve.

Maybe I misinterpreted the OP and it was his first medal at his new club.

As to his blow by blow account of his round, I sympathise - Ramsdale's back 9 is a fearsome proposition.

I GOT 13.5 i think it was , taken off the scores i handed in , had played alot of par3 & a bit if society golf but no club golf .. handicap sec rang to tell me my handicap & thank me for the honesty of my cards ..

Not a bad result given the 10 on the card. Take that and a double off the card and can't be far off the buffer at least. Medals do have a "pressure" of their own and I think you have to adopt a different mindset than playing a stableford. It is a learning curve to find a way to play a good medal round
