Has anyone got /tried the ping s56 irons? saw them in the shop today and they look really really nice! I cnt decide now, was thinking about upgrading to titleist AP2 irons but the pings have thrown a spanner in the works!

Yes, seen them, tryed a 7iron, was going to change but I didnt think I would be getting anything I havent already got with my S59's, only cleaner.
My pro said the same. So I'm sticking with what I have for the moment...............

Got the exact same problem as u tin_cup :( it's now a very hard decision :P

Lads,I have hit them both - S56 smash the AP2 all over the place, really no contest. In my opinion the i15 smashed the S56 all over the place, so i went i15. If I had to pick Ap2 or S56, its an easy decision.

I thought ping had a little bit of a stigma attached to it? I think the s56 irons look really brill and compared to my old RAC MB irons i thought they were a lot more forgiving, yet still they need to be hit properly.

They are in my opinion the sexiest iron that Ping have produced. Mike Harris has a set, PM him and ask how he likes them, I'm sure I already know the answer though!

I tried them at The Belfry recently and they're superb. My swing isn't good enough to use them, the bads shots were bad, but the good shots were amazing. i15's suited me better, 20 consecutive shots with a 7 iron within 4 feet of the flag according to the software

As Craw says I do indeed have a set. I switched into them (from 57s) in September and have got on really well with them. They're a little more forgiving (and workable) than the 57s but as previous posters have said they are not a club that falls into the forgiving bracket!

No disrespect but to get the best from them you’ll need to be a good ball striker.

Mine are on order. With S300 shafts.
;)

snap. Mine are due in this week :D :D

I spent 2-3 weeks of taking the 7i out on the range and my place lent me the demo club to use for a round before I decided.

I actually found them a lot more forgiving than I thought. For me they performed much better on the off center hits than the AP2, MP-53, 58. I actually hit them better than the i15's, which were my original choice.

But I strongly suggest you keep trying them over a number of weeks just in case you have a good hitting day when you try them out.

I was ready to hand over the cash the first day i tried them but managed to restrain myself. A rare occurrence for me.

Lads, at the end of the day - they are cavity backs so they are as forgiving from the outset as you can get them. The Maltby rating classes S56 as 'Game improvemnet'.

Cavities - forgiving
Blades - Un-forgiving.
