Father, forgive me for I have sinned. I am 31 years old and toying with the possibility of buying some Ping irons.

Right, formalities out of the way!

Is there a big difference between the Ping S series irons and the I series?

I am considering them as never met anyone who has a bad word to say about Ping clubs! I know the G series are too bulky for me as I play with a guy who has the G15 but wondering what people think of the I or S series....

Thanks in advance

Well my son,
The I series sits between the G series and the S series. get yourself down to Ping for a fitting session. And say ten Hail Mary's for being tempted by Ping!

I've had my i15s for nearly a year and am really pleased with them, particularly the 3,4 and 5 irons which in the past were always my weakest clubs in terms of ball striking but these are fantastic.
I had a few swings of the S56 irons recently and they do look and feel completely different to the i15s so if you get the chance it is probably worth trying them both. Apart from the abuse you will get on this forum (:D) you cannot really go wrong with them.

I use I10 and really like them. When I got them I tried the s57 or 58, can't remember which were nice but was moving away from blades as not playing much - nice clubs though. You could make up a combo set as ping irons are bought individually. Go and have a go with some, failing that come to mine for a round but see the pro while there - he's got just about everything ping related.

I was 28 or 29 when I got my S59s and never looked back, it's when you stick them on a remote control trolley you know you're knocking on a bit :D

I have the i10's myself and after 10 rounds or so with them there are days when they bite but thats me and not the clubs....
I struggle at times not always with the 4 iron....Off a tee im fine but off the fairway can be a chore sometimes....

The wedge's in them are very accurate for distance control too....

Iv hit the i15's also when my dad played them and from what i could tell there was a slight forgiveness increase with the long iron in theses as opposed to the i10's...

Also they were slightly longer for me too...Some people have said that the i10's when middled seem to have a great flight but then seem to run out of steam and just drop...I have noticed this also in mine.
Oh he's now playing Callaways new Razr irons and finds them a club longer than his previous i15's..

My brother has the G15's and iv also played with them too....Very nice to hit but i found them like waffle irons on the end of sticks around the greens....A little too chunky for finesse shots i think...

If i were you id be swaying towards the i series clubs because when your swing is off you'll get way more help from those than the S series of clubs....

Just my 2 cents but if your on a budget try pick up a set of i10's second hand and save some money....I dont feel that there is a big enough difference to warrant an extra few hundred notes just for a current model....

Oh and im only 36 too :D :D :D

Can't offer advice on either, but can I ask why you've discounted all other brands of club if you're changing?

I've not discounted any brands, I may not have expressed myself very well!

Still in the fairly early stages of looking, had a brief hit with an S59 (but wrong spec) the other night and liked the look of it. Never hit any of the I series so just thought I'd ask opinions.

Plus, as I said, I've never come across anyone that has anything negative to say about Ping clubs (other than them being for pensioners :D). Titleist are in the same boat, only ever hear good things about them.

I have a bad word to say about them...

The i15 are utter gash, so much offset that when you look down it looks like the club head fell off behind the shaft!!

anyway... the s56 look very nice, they are def better ballstrikers clubs.

:)

Went to a Ping demo day last year and was desperate to hit the S56 well. I couldn't. They simply weren't forgiving enough for me. The I15 on the other hand were gorgeous. Much lower flight than the G series, more than enough forgiveness on the off centre ones and definitely as long as my TM TP's. I didn't have any issue with the offset and regret not getting some when the opportunity was there. If you got a C/F set I think you'd be very happy
