Ping G15 or Ping i15 driver?

Cheers Smiffy, the G10 does get good reviews, a certain Mr Westwood I believe is still using a G10, hmmmm decisions decisions lol

I've just gone back to a G10 after fiddling around with an R11, Titleist D2 both 909 and 910 models. Its seems so easy to hit.....! I have not doubt that it won me my trip to Dubai....and I only put it in the bag on the day as the 910 was not gonna do it for me. I knew that!

That's also good to know, how's that TFC129d shaft? A 9* head gives what flight? As no-one has them to try now I'll prob just have to buy without trying first and hope its ok, nothing to lose I suppose and lots to gain.

I had a 10.5 with the Grafalloy Prolaunch red which gave a nice low flight. I prefer a higher lofted driver with a low launch shaft as looking down on 9 degrees doesn't do a lot for my confidence! So the lower launching shaft counterbalances the higher loft of the club in my eyes. It was a great combination and I'm pig sick that I gave it up to be honest. I bought my old one back after 6 or 7 months but the magic had gone by then.

I think that shaft is great....I also have a G10 with a reg Pro launch Red and will be doing a comparison in the next few weeks. I think the TFC shaft is great, the flight is Ok for me as i do tend to hit them high and it seems the G10 hits as low as i can do it. The ball flight is operator error not the club!

I've spent a fortune messing about with different driver shaft combos including the G15 etc and keep coming back to the G10's and while i would love a lower ball flight (as I play most of my golf in Scotland)....it is what it is and so i am learning to be comfortable with it and just getting on with it. My average driving distance on Tuesday (Arden course) was about 235 compared with 217yds with the 910 on Sunday!

And they are pretty cheap these days so its not like you have to fork out £200+.....go for it!

I found the prolaunch red a dead shaft in my hands, hopefully the TFC is better as I think I'll just buy a G10 over the T'interweb and if I dont like it can send it back under the 14 day distance selling rules, bit concerned you cant get a low launch with that combo but one way for me to find out.

Cant believe I'm going to buy a Ping driver, I've been a Titleist man since a boy and only deviated to Cobra and Mizuno recently as a last resort but I must admit the Ping Drivers get some great press especially about their stock shafts

Was talking to a pro in Inverness and he was saying that he believes the G10 is and will be Ping's best driver to date...he uses one with a PL red stiff and he also said the shop has had a huge amount of enquiries for the g10 since Westy got a new one 2 weeks ago....and he has the pick of the lot!

I think you might be right about the PL shaft...I have a regular PL and i just dont get that feel of the club like i do with the TFC. But I do like the stiff TFC.... whacked them all straight down the middle on Tuesday!

Will be really interested to know how you get on with it should you get one....let me know!

Thanks seochris, I'll order one over web tomorrow, thanks for the input, looking forward to hopefully a driver that will stay with me

Your're welcome! How much are they on the web?
about £100 for a decent condition one, seems rude not to buy at that price:smirk:

Ethan tells me the TFC is a high launch shaft so might have to rethink the shaft choice and maybe the PL red is better on the Ping than it was on the Titleist

Went to a Ping demo when the 15 range came out. Hit the K first (all regular shafted) and it is just silly easy to hit. I couldn't miss with it but on the downside I'd have to put the kettle on waiting for it to come down. Way too much height and so a loss of distance. Wasn't enamoured on first glance at the G and wanted to be able to hit the I. In the end I didn't like either. Hooky with the G15 and the I15 was a bit of a beast and I couldn't keep it straight enough. When they go, they really go and so if you are a good driver (I've never been) then the G or the I are worth looking at.

To be honest though there are lots of top drivers out there and I'd look closely at the Nike and Cleveland ranges which should be comparable price wise. Found that if I get too brand specific then you can miss out on something perhaps better

Well Ok but I think the stiff TFC is the shaft to get....the head has a lower ball flight than the usual ping offering hence Westwood's choice....ironically he has increased the loft but then I suppose its all about spin!

Anyway its certainly a lot lower than my 910. Good luck.

solution, I'll buy a 9* with a TFC shaft and one with a PL Red shaft, try them out and keep the best one, result. I'd rather have 9.5* but its only 9* then jumps to 12* for the second hand market

I got my g10 for £55

tried a mutlitude of drivers, as a beginner I know my swing is pants but, as others will testify, I drove pretty well at Woburn on the front 9, so it must be easy to hit. I also drove it well in Sundays medal.

I am that happy I am going to pick up a 10.5 one aswell and see how that goes ;)
