Penalty?

Umm, are these instances of poor signage of a directional nature, e.g a sign directing you to the right tee ?
Or is it that the tee markers, usually showing the hole number, yards and SI are missing ?
If it’s the latter, I can understand the confusion but if the tee markers are in place there isn’t much of an excuse is there ?

Pic tomorrow.
It's signage from hole to hole. We have 2 instances where there's a tee box nearer the previous green than the actual next tee box.
Visitors always getting it wrong..
How much does a small sign cost?

Perhaps we need a running thread " Random rules that we'll ignore if we think they're stupid"
Can I just play on when I’m oob?
Why should the course have a boundary (stupid rule)?

Only for internal out of bounds because that really is stupid.

We have it on 2 holes that go up and back down the hill - its essential to keep traffic flow or everyone would definitely be playing onto the adjacent fairway - to avoid the trees and OOB on the left side on both holes

While I don't like it - I understand it - and the reality is its all for the best in this situation

@Orikoru
Did you actually read Rule 6.1b which I referenced above? Especially regarding playing from the tee markers of a different hole? It’s in the second sentence.

Are you saying that if a referee or the committee in a comp said you got a penalty, then you would refuse to take it? How does that work?

You don't sign the card.

If visitors are always getting it wrong, something should be done.

Two bits of wood and a felt pen would do the job.

So he did - I missed that! Predictably made no difference though.
Yeah, I didn't notice the bit that said 'a different hole' until Chris highlighted it. Since then people have just been quoting things I said before that point in the conversation so for you to say it 'made no difference' is complete rubbish. Predictably.

Plus one on that comment.

Playing off the wrong tee is something I have seen on many occasions at our club but is not poor signage or missing tee markers. It players simply not reading the signs or following the map on the back of the card or the card itself 4 is followed by 5 over a road next tot eh 4th is the 12th tee.

We even had one group waiting for us to play our second on the 12th having seen us on the tee when they were on the 4th green. Surely they must have noticed we were not the group in front of them when they were playing the 4th. They carried on to tee off despite all of our waving back at them and pointing where to go and I had to wait on the 12th green for them to arrive to tell them their mistake.

But you did post: "...But if you'd have told me then that we're all due a 2 shot penalty I'd have laughed in your face. There's no way I'd be taking that ..."

As such, no matter if you read/understood, the rule or not, you wouldn't accept a penalty. Therefore it di make no difference!

I apologise if my turn of phrase wasn't to your liking, I meant that I wouldn't take it lightly, but ultimately if my options were take the penalty or walk off the course, I probably wouldn't walk off the course so there you go. The chances of this ever happening to me in a competition are basically zero anyway. If me and my pals played the wrong hole in a friendly knock, then of course we wouldn't all give ourselves a 2 shot penalty either as that would be absurd, so it's a non-issue. Case closed.

This is the view from the 4th green towards the 15th tee

Pics taken but the stupid system won't let me upload them...
View from the 4th green is the back of a 5ft high, 4ft wide sign. There is a faded arrow painted on a tree:rolleyes: showing the way to the 5th but in the wrong light you'd miss it.
Bit the giveaway is standing on the tee. You're right next to this dirty great sign with 15 in 5 inch high numbers - and as they left their bags on that side, they had to walk past the sign to get to them.
I've suggested a sign or two would help but I doubt anything will get done..
