When I mentioned in another thread removing all immoveable objects, temp obstructions, etc., and just playing the ball as it lies or taking a penalty drop I got utterly roasted

1. .having to play out of a divot ? Can’t move it 2 inches out?
2. Must drop in a bunker and not place?

Neither of those scenarios are because you, the player, didn’t do the right thing, or did a wrong thing.
Some rules are bloody minded.

No.. it would be like having permanent pick and place. Currently thats limited, to winter and selected other times.
Except now arguing over what is and isn't a divot no thanks

I agree with Point 2. I think it is harsh that one needs to drop in a bunker, as that pretty much means it will always be plugged. Nightmare, especially in a fairway bunker. And, if you are hitting stroke and distance (I assume you would be), almost certainly giving you a much worse lie than you originally had.

However, taking relief from divots would be a really bad move. I've had enough headaches in the past with golfers trying to convince everyone that they are standing on a rabbit scraping. That would increase one hundred fold if golfers started trying to convince everyone they were in a divot, anytime their lie was anything less than 100% perfect.

In over 20 years, and definitely thousands of rounds of golf, I've never been in a divot that has made my shot unplayable. Maybe this could happen to someone at some point, but it should be extremely rare. Being in any form of divot is rare enough, but it is just about having the technique to execute the shot. It can be done. So I don't think giving relief to players in that situation is necessary, I'm very much in the "deal with it" camp on that one.

Not something that I can ever recall impacting me.

And good luck to the R&A if they ever look to bring the rule in, to define the term "decent"
