Played Milford GC. It is a Par 69 off the whites. Lovely course that is in lovely nick right now. Ditched the driver at the start as I am slicing it. Played tactically with the aim to keep ball in play. Did not lose my cool when I topped my drive, and just hit a short club back onto the fairway. Very few 3 putts too.

Bogie, B, Par,B, P, B, Double, B, B, B, B, D, D, P, P, B, P, Double.... Finished with 39 points - it is the first time I have played under my handicap in about 12 months. Would have been even better if I had not gone for the kill on the last hole and hit it OOB. But recovered with a double.

Finished with an 86 & a smug that might last the evening. However it is not a regulation Par 72 course. So does that count??

Well done. That is what makes us play the game. Was it a comp,if so even better.Nice one

What's a regulation par 72 course?

A course par is a course par, many majors are played on courses with pars of less than 72.

A PB is a PB as long as it's on a measured golf course and not a par 3 course or similar.

Well done!

Par is par. Of course it counts. Just because a course isn't par 72 doesn't make it sub-standard. Indeed, shorter and lower par courses in my experience can actually be a tougher proposition with tighter drives and smaller greens

Works for me my course is a par 72-73 and I play off 23, lowest round ever was a 86 on a par 70 but the course was easier? A PB is a PB. Milk it for all you can coz next week you will shoot a 100 and will want to sell your clubs.

for 20 mins anyway

Did that already in our June Medals... Shot a 108!! PW to PB in 4 weeks. Not playing much golf can sometimes be better than hitting the course every night.

West Hill, last years H4H course was a par 69 and I don't think anyone would not be happy to break 80 round there

Par 72 isn't regulation, in fact, I rarely seem to play on Par 72 course. The important thing is SSS which at Milford is 1 under par which means you were 2 under handicap.

yeh another well done here. my home course is par 69 and i have come home with plenty of cricket scores in the past. Short does not mean easy!

A few years ago, I shot 74 on a par 64 course which was by miles my best score. Basically, I bullied the course with a day of great driving and decent putting - because it was so short, that made it relatively easy. I wouldn't have been able to shoot such a low score (relative to par and sss (63)) that day on a longer course as my iron play wouldn't have been good enough had I been hitting approaches from 150 yards plus. However, I'm still very proud of that achievement, it's just a different achievement to shooting 83 at my regular course, which is my proudest golfing achievement.

Enjoy all your success because I'm sure like everyone else you give yourself a hard time when it doesn't go well!

Is Milford's 18th still across the lake for the drive?

Yes.. About 210 over water and then downfill. P5, 462y. I did hit a sweet drive & it was centre of fairway about 170y. I got too excited and went for the flag. Ball was below my feet, so it started inline and then slowly made its way right OOB. It hit a tree about flag high, but had to drop another into play...

Lesson learnt
