Par 4 or 5?

We have a 440yard (quite flat) par 4 SI 1 hole all RHS is OOB, trees up LHS. Its a beast of a hole when there is no run but generally if you hit the fairway (once or twice) you should be ok, however, the shorter hitters really struggle to hit the green in 2 so I supose it depends on how long you tend to be. Big hitters also sent to try to blast one and the wall (OOB) really comes into play - I know all too well :(
Personally I like the long par 4's as a challange, we have 3, as I say they are a great challange - but I would imagine birdies are hard to come by on thes holes.

This seems quite benign but has caused much damage.
The Pro's tip says to play down the right side, what it doesn't say is that to line up down the right you have to take on the oak tree right in front of the tee. (It also doesn't show the power lines that swoop down between tee and tree - and yes you can hit them!)
Oh, and all the hedging on the edge of the lake to the left has been removed leaving a nice clean entry.

it's followed immediately by a slightly shorter par 4 that seems open and inviting but the river (with it's unnecessary OOB) all down the right have swallowed many a dream. just to add to the misery an over long second on this one is doomed to a watery end as the river cuts right round the back of the green with very little margin for error

the ninth at lichfield is my Nemesis. And its not even that long its only 494 yards off the yellows I'veplayed longer parr 5 holes & walked off with parr's birdies & bogeys with regularity. That hole is a score wrecker for me. I could quite easily be on the green in three or four iron shots with ease. Perhaps I should try that next time I'm there.

I treat everything reachable in 2 with an iron, after a moderate drive, as a par 4.
As I know that if I hit a decent iron shot I can hit the green most times (GIR last year was over 70% on par 4s).
Problem only comes from putting. I'm now down to only 3 x 3 putts per round.
