My Aeroburner Mini driver was proving difficult to hit, I kept getting blocks right which isn't any good at all, but even less good for a club bought to play the holes where accuracy over length is required. I had a lesson where my pro tried to get me to release better but I don't have much trouble with my woods normally and decided not to embark on a swing change to suit one club

So I took advantage of American Golf/Taylor Made deal that guarantees if you're unhappy with that club they will refund your money. So I popped to AG, now they have never had been, in the past, my favourite shop, but the guys were brilliant. I gave it back, tried and loved the Big Bertha 14* mini driver in stiff and pleased that it went straight with no manipulation on the monitor and back at my local range after lunch confirmed this. AG even price matched ..... so good on them!

That sounds fantastic service and great that the new one seems to be working

The callaway stiff shaft was stiffer than the TM one?

Did you adjust the head?

Are the shaft lengths different?

Excuse all the questions, but your OP piqued my interest as I'm currently looking through options for a big stick that I can hit better (not a mini big stick though!).

Which branch Chris ?

Canterbury -my nearest one

I went for the Callaway in a stiff shaft but the TM was regular

I only adjusted the head when I went to the range, I reset it all to the initial setup at the end as it seemed to give the best result - I shall see after hitting real balls on the course

I don't know about shaft lengths as I didn't check them

For a full size driver i think that the Callaway X2Hot takes some beating

I'll be interested to see how this goes off the deck, Chris....
And as much as I'd like one I can't really see it fitting into my line up...
How's the distance compared to the driver and your current 3 wood...?

I am playing today, tomorrow and Sunday Ian so I hope to be able to answer some of your questions

Had a whack with one at a recent demo day...all subjective but i found it easy to hit, off a low tee or off the deck. Seemed easier to control than my driver however it carried, as expected, noticeably less than the Chief.

Which is what I don't get about these things, leaving aside the Callaway being Chris' miracle cure for a moment....

If I buy a 'mini driver', it's a choice between these and other three woods. I know it's not going as far as a driver. I'm basically opting to hit a 3w off the tee and can either use a 3w called a 3w or a 3w called a 'mini driver'.

If I'm having problems with my driver, or just don't like it, I look for a driver I can get along with or work on our relationship together (trying to bear in mind it's probably me causing the friction!).

Mini driver = nonsense name.

Wonder if they considered;

"I can't believe it's not a driver"
"Utterly driverley"

And so on.

Sorry to diverge Chris. Hope you smash it long and straight next time you're out on the course.

I played my first round with it today and unfortunately wasn't hitting overly well as I've played a lot of rounds in a few days and am beginning to feel tired.

So I used the new club off the tee on three of the holes that either don't require a full blooded driver but my hybrid won't get me where I'd like to be ideally. All three tee shots put me exactly where I hoped it would and gave me a chance of a par on all three ( I got 2 pars) holes. Tomorrow is a Texas Scramble so it probably only get used as a 3 wood off the deck - time will tell on that!

The shotgun start Texas scramble today and I only used the club for three shots which were all off the deck. The first was on our opening hole (hole 9 a par 5) I stonked it within 20 yards of the green with a slight fade, the second was on the next hole where I would have only a little chip over a bunker on another par 5 and the 3rd time, yet another par 5, a slice put me in a water ditch but I really did go after it

So, 6 shots over 2 days, 5 shots I was very happy with and one would cost me a penalty drop had it been a qualifier. Rest tomorrow and another comp Sunday to try it on

Rick Shiels has done video on Utube testing it
