Mini Driver Vs Standard Driver

I don’t get the obsession with wanting to hit it off the deck, but there’s lots in golf that makes no sense to me.
I would love to play against opponents who try to hit any “drivers” off the deck. Should be an easy win! Same applies to opponents who constantly think they can hit/should hit par 5s in two.

Have tried a mini driver for me it didnt really add much

It went about the same distance as my 3 wood ( at the time ) and no difference in dispersion

I have added a HL 3 wood over the last 12 months to give me a higher ball flight without sacrificing distance in the air but a little less run

Don’t see the point in hitting driver off the deck

Be careful what you wish for.

I regularly play with a guy who, if the situation demands, hits driver off the deck and even at times out of the rough, and it's a 10.5* loft, 460cc head.

By all that is golfing logic it shouldn't work but the results he gets from the shot defy that.

The rest of us are now used to shaking our heads in disbelief.

That’s rare. I do it periodically also, usually when into the wind and a miss hit isn’t going to be a catastrophe.

I have seen it used in ridiculous situations and we have a Geordie guy that uses it off the fairway to a certain degree of success. I just think these are outliers and for most it is a high tariff shot that has too many riskes

I agree that he's a rarity and personally I wouldn't waste my time with the shot.

But I have often wondered what the reaction would be from someone who had never seen him before and was drawn against him in match play.

If not intimidated then, at least, bewildered.

To a certain degree I don't involve myself what players are using for their shot, especially on a par 3 so I wouldn't be too bothered to see a driver being used. It would be the outcome I would be concerned about. It may just be me but unless I have played the shot a fair bit in practice and had a degree of trust, I wouldn't use it on the course.

The distance this guy hits it there is absolutely no likelihood of him hitting driver on a par 3.

It's because people are thinking the mini driver replaces 3 wood in the bag, therefore if they can't hit the mini driver off the deck, they have limited their options overall.

If I got mini driver it would be to add a club off the tee, keep the 4 wood for off the deck

Why would you lol. Asking for trouble

It’s seems a key aim that people are trying to achieve when purchasing them homer, it’s evident with some of the content of this post.

I had my mates out again tonight for our Thursday league, it’s a 2w that finds fairways… I love it but I’m not sure enough to put it in full time.
