Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has ever heard this from the greenkeepers and management about the water in the irrigation system?

Basically, despite the dry and quite warm weather we've been having we haven't been able to turn on the sprinklers around the greens because 'the water in the system is too cold and would damage the grass' … Is this a genuine reason or are they just trying to save money by not bothering?

Not heard it quite like this but certainly believed never water with spray in full sun etc as it can damage the leaf (which is why the courses and home gardens etc you see sprinklers in morning/evenings)

Yes our green keeper told me this some time ago. He said it fools/shocks the roots which stop working because they go into winter mode.

same here, when we had a 2 month dry spell they didn't like using the irrigation system as the water was cold, unlike rain that would be air temp, esp early season.

not an issue at the moment been hosing down for 3 days solid:(
