Does anybody play in them and whats there take on them as value for money. I played 2 last year Machrahanish which was £15 and Muckhart which was £10 both great value. This year i was going to play in my own clubs open and was told it was £22 with no concession for members , does this happen at any other club. My clubs open seems to be the most expensive in the area. Any recommendations for opens in Scotland

Sorry no knowledge of the Scottish scene, but I will cheer you up with the fact that the open at our local course is £40 per person!!!!

Thats steep, some courses up hear have open weeks , i work in Montrose and some of the guys play in there Open week and its £50 guarnteed 5 rounds , not bad when its £50 a round , so i will take some comfort in that , cheers

Yes Steve our place is £15 for the opens no discount for members and the majority of members do not play as they don't think they should pay £15 to play there own course while the £15 represents fantastic value for the visitors.
I am going to Silloth in July for a 4BBB open and paying £12.50 a man for it so great value,I also looked at the Machrihanish one but time does not permit I'm afraid this year. You would be most welcome to come down to our 4BBB open in July,it would take you just over 2hours to get here.I have played twice I think in your 4BBB open which I think is around the same time, cracking track as well!

The 36 hole opens are a particular bargain, usually limited to a 9 handicap max though. I have played in recent times 36'ers at Banchory, Peterculter, Newmachar Hawkshill, Braemar, Grantown-on-Spey all for around £20 to £25 - that's two rounds off the best tees and often soup and a sandwich thrown in. Plus if you play decent you'll get more than that back in vouchers.
For 18 holers in this area it's normally around £15 for an Open entry which is often about 30% of a normal green fee.

It is no secret it's the cheapest way by far of playing good golf courses. Lots of amateurs I know seem scared of Opens for some reason. They're my favourite form of golf -new course in prime condition off the hardest tees, very good playing partners, good prizes etc. :)

Doesn't quite stretch down Dundee way, but for Angus northwards this is the best site for you http://www.northeastgolfdraws.co.uk/

The P&J also come out with an annual calendar, both in print and online, not out yet, but this was last year's http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/594853?UserKey=

Not getting a concession for members is very unusual though, especially at that price.

As for in general, they are excellent value for money and we used to play them week in week out when I lived in Aberdeenshire. Sadly in England they are just not as prevalent, and the majority tend to be 4BBB rather than Mens Opens, which is very disapppointing.

Played in a few Junior Opens last year, was valuable experience. Got to play nice courses for pennies, plus it was good to play with exceptional golfers.

Yes our 4BBB is the same time as yours, unfortunately i'm working when yours is on , oh well maybe next year as it looks a good track. You should give Machrahanish a try its worth the drive, we were 4 hours so it would be a lot more for you as its 3 hours from Glasgow.
