I'm not a Villa supporter but if I were I would be absolutely gutted. He's worked miracles with a relatively small budget.

Very odd indeed.

I wouldn't be gutted if I was a Villa Fan,he is the most overrated Boss in that league.

He spent money on woeful players. Seeemed every penny went on a new defence each year and squad players who never played. Best football played was season before last when his trademark big hitman Carew was out and Villa were 433 with Milner and Young wide of Gabby and then he signed Heskey for god knows what reason. When the money dried up he was bound to go. No one shirks responsability for mistakes greater than saint Martin.

Football under MON aint pretty, stick some clogger defenders in,cloggers in midfield, the odd nippy winger and a big gadgy up front and you have the indetikit MON team and no doubt his next team he builds at his next club will have the same blueprint.......football that is not pretty to watch but will get results to a certain extent.

He can come back to Wycombe Wanderers anytime he likes!!

Does seem strange this close to the start of the season but if you've had enough then its time to go.

I'm with Dodger on this. He is without doubt the most over rated manager in the modern game. He had a couple of good cup runs with Leicester playing long ball, crap football. He did OK at Celtic, again playing crap football, but with respect success at the Old Firm means nothing. Look at the 2 most successful Old Firm managers of recent times, Souness and Walter Smith, both absolutely gash in the English Prem (as an Evertonian I've suffered first hand)

the no money line is bollox. 2 years ago (or thereabouts) Villa spent more money in the summer than ANY other club in Europe, somewhere in the region of 50 million.

He's resigned because he knows he can't move Villa forward because he's tactically weak. With him in charge the only way is down for Villa, they'd never have broken into the top 4.

im a liverpool supporter, i wish we had got him instead of roy!

Are you prefering a big name over substance ?

I'd have thought you'd had enough of that after the last few years?

Liverpudlians would hate his style of football after about three weeks.

Roy IMO is far and away the best you can afford atm, and will get 'pool back where they belong.

Hodgson is possibly the most honest/realistic (?) manager around and might get Liverpool to face what they are instead of what they think they are.

Liverpool won't like that.

So taking Marlon Harewood and Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham for 12 million was good business?

Blackburn have just offered Villa 1 mill for Reo-Choker and Marleens off on a free.

Now that is a miracle.

:D :D

I think it was the way all his players where linked with big money moves and he had to sell them if he wanted to buy others in with less than the money he would have sold them for..

I think he wanted to build the team more and make a push for a top four finish.. Cant blame him for that..

He is a top manger one of the best in the league, ok he spent some money tho in doing so picked up some really good players Richard Dunn, Brad Friedel and James Milner.

Outside of chelsea last season they had the best defence in the league as well..

That does not happen over night given some more cash i do believe he could have got the top four finish.. And personally I think he did the right thing by walking out..

He spent over 120 million, so not sure why people think he didn't get any cash from the board. They obviously stopped giving it to him because he buys dross and plays crap football.

Agree Villa are far from great to watch. When their match highlights come on MOTD it's time to head for the kettle!

O'Neill can get results to a point but he's not exactly a pupil of the Barca school of football is he? Plodding methodical stuff with the odd good front man to liven things up occassionally.

He probably got a payoff of a few million as they usually do!

I thought

you thought

that was Wenger

Him as well.. :D

God, I had actually forgot about Balde....another one of his big unit centre halfs who the whole of the east end of Glasgow could see was keeech but Saint Martin shelled out stupid money to give the wrestler a new improved extended contract......another fine move. :p

Must be better than Evertons crap though Colin as results proved ;) On a serious note though if he was being told what and not to buy from the board then fair play to him for sticking to his principles and telling them to stick the job. Celtic worshiped him until he left and now he's a knob, you cant win sometimes as a manager.

Not all...I gave up my season ticket during his time cos it was painful to watch...we were better under Dr Jo or TB.....won next to hee haw but christ it was fun to watch unlike the dross he served up,even most of the CL victories were backs to the wall and hit them with a set piece.....as I have said, vastly overrated.
