Played in the second qualifier today - well organised and well run so a big well done to the staff at Old Thorns, which is a beautiful place.

I played some terrible golf today, as we all do from time to time, no one to blame for my poor display but me! :( Tee to green the course was stunning, but the greens were nothing short of shocking. Even if I walked off a municipal and the greens were that bad I would be unhappy - a real shame.

Big credit for every other aspect though - breath taking views!

Losing a lot of interest in the Trilby thing. These new pre-qualifer events are essentially a golden ticket - winner takes all - and just seem a money making exercise The courses can't be at their peak (as you found out) yet either so it seems a lot of dough to play somewhere not really ready

I'm playing in the Frilford Heath event in a month's time, course should be in great nick by then. Not tried it before, seems a bit of a tricked up event but I'm just treating it as a day out cos even if I qualify, I can't make the final.

I'm in the one at the Bucks.

It seems a bit of a strict set-up with them threatening to disqualify you or forfeit your place if you don't do everything how they want it doing.
The latest thing I've seen is that the ONLY acceptable handicap certificate is the one THEY have designed, and you have to download that one and get your club to fill it out either on headed paper or with a club stamp.

Frickin egomaniacs.

Yeah, not sure about that. Really don't see how they can turn down an official handicap cert from my club.

How many inches did you have to get taken off your trousers? I'm 6ft1 and had to get about 3 inches taken off mine

I'm also playing in the Frilford Heath event. Hope to meet up with you.

I've not tried them on yet but they'll have to go to the shop to be altered anyway because I asked for 30" and got sent 32".

I believe they make them as long as they think they'll ever be needed because it's easier to shorten them than lengthen them.

I'm in the 1st gig @ Trevose and haven't got my clobber yet! :(

Emailed them twice and they have said its being dispatched shortly, cutting it fine now to get it tailored. Like Homer, patience has pretty much gone with TT now, can't see me entering again. :(

That will be the "Little Hitler" stamping his authority.

Had my outfit delivered. Like a lot of people, I'm going to need them taking up a lot! I do have some time to get this done as I'm playing at The Bucks on 24th July.

Alsp, thought I'd drop it in here, put together an 'Official Trilby Tour Thread' here, has been good and a lot of discussion about the Tour. Some people love, some people hate it. It's my first year this year, so not able to comment on it yet :)

A group of 21 of us played Old Thorns this week Wednesday and Thursday and as OP said tee to green was excellent but the greens were bad, lumps and bumps all over the place.

We were very surprised due to the Qualifier, some thought they were leaving them to cut Friday etc, obviously not.

Have to say it was excellent course, the 3rd, 5th, 16th and 17th were my favourite holes.

Always quite fancied it but after watching it on tele last year I have to say it looks a bit of a bandit fest:eek:

All these guys playing off 7, 8, 9 shooting 1 or 2 over every round they play in, I know what they would be called at my place:mmm:

any event that is played to a non qualifyfing format so that handicap adjustments won't apply will inevitably attract certain players more than others...

That wasnt my experience last year at Foxhills, the 4 finalists at the regional final were all below 4 hcap. I played with the eventual winner Ian Barker who played off 1.

3/4 format helps and I'm sure that theres some bandits kicking around but you get that in every competition. The TT isnt perfect dont get me wrong , but they do as much as they can to protect against bandits.

I played Frilford Heath a year or so ago in the Regional Finals of the Volvo Matchplay, lovely course, lousy condition, hope its better now.
