A couple of months ago on here there was a piece asking folk if they would be interested in going up to Moortown, just north of Leeds to have a look at some of next years FootJoy apparel and shoes. Obviously the people at Footjoy know a man of style and panache when they see, it so it came as no suprise when I was choose .
Arrived at about 8.50 for the 9.30 start and I have to say I thought Moortown just looked stunning. I took a detour to miss some of the traffic and I knew I had passed close to Moor allerton course and seeing as I passed by all woods course which cannot be a mile from Moortown. Well let's just say that the people of Leeds are spoilt for choice.
Anyway there was about 16-18 of us and we split into two groups. One to view the shoes and one to view the clothing. My group viewed the shoes first. Al I can say is omg.
Now at this point I cannot say what's what re styles, names colours etc etc due to state secrets and all that. But they Looked gorgeous, if Imelda Marcos played golf, she would be in her element. One of the first things they said was " don't tell is what we want to hear, be critical". Critical would be harsh, if anything it could be termed as " nit picking". The finished quality of the shoes looked fantastic. Some of the thought that had gone into the shoes was excellent. Some of the people they are associated with in the design of the shoes, people who work on greens re studs etc showed a level of understanding one probably never gave a great deal of thought to. On a down side, the Miserable sods only had one shoe in each style in a size 9 1/2 so there no point in trying to nick one shoe that don't fit you. Unless your a pirate with one leg. The differant styles and studs against dimple shoes were very very impressive.
After a coffee we had a look at the shirts and tops, some of the styles looked very classy. One of the problems I saw was other makers such as Adidas and Galvin green etc have Climacool and ventil8. FJ have an equivalent but up,until today I and others didn't know what that was. In essence a style of clothing that helps to ventilate and get rid of stinky smells. Before we knew it time had won and it was time to call it a day.
I thought the day was organised really well and all questions or queries were answered very well. The mix of people present were very well chosen with a fair few fossils mixed with us young uns.
It was 70 miles each way for me to get there and I would do it again tomorrow, having met people from Worksop, Chesterfield, Manchester. It seems that folk were prepared to travel to check out next years gear.
So what was in it for me, what was the most valuable lesson for me. Get your feet measured Tash. Footjoy do half sizes, slim fit up to XXL width. Playing twice a week, 10 miles a week. 500 miles a year. Get your feet looked after, get them measured with a scent pair of socks on.
Loved it many thanks Footjoy, Tashyboy.

Lovely write up - thanks.

On the shoe sizing....i haven't found this to be the case in practice; may well be a distribution issue though. Even with the Fury I seem to be struggling to find the colour and fit from standard distributors - and I only want the Blue in 9.5 W 🤔

I hope their durability has improved

Over the past fours I have had to send back 5 pairs of Footjoy shoes - one pair of FJ Casual Tours ( the ones before Pro SL ) because the grips started to come away after 4 months

Then 4 pairs of Pro SL , one pair leaked and the other three the grips started to come away all within 8 months of purchase - the latest pair went back last week , it’s a shame as the Pro SL are so comfy and I will keep buying them - hopefully they sort the grip issue out

I’m also a very big fan of their tops and mid layers - apart from my club shirts all my other tops are FJ and already have some on order from their new collection, their clothing certainly stands the test of time and will always recommend them especially the mid layers

Great write up. The clothing has always been a good quality and I have a number of polos, trousers and windproof tops. Their shoes in the last few years clearly have had issues given the complaints regularly on here. Did they mention at all today whether they've taken customer feedback into account in the upcoming designs. I still like their shoes and personally haven't had any issues and long may that continue. I'm luck that I am a fairly standard fit and look forward to hearing more of these new designs as we get closer to release dates

I attended the afternoon session! Must admit I was impressed as well. In terms of footwear I was very very impressed with the majority (There was One range of shoes that really struggled to find any positives from anyone in the group ) However, the direction of all the shoes is extremely exciting and im sure will maintain its position of leading the golf shoe market. The new Pro SL's will be difficult to beat in my opinion.
It was interesting to hear from the guys from Footjoy themselves and really impresses me that they do these sessions and were really engaging both the positive and negative feedback. It will still stand that the price of the newest ranges puts me off when i Know i can get the shoe in the off season sales up to £50 cheaper but it certainly has put footjoy well up there with one of my favourite golfing brands.

In terms of clothing, really impressed again with the quality and entire range. Something for everyone and they really have thought about each product and its design. Pricing is something I still go back to and would always be looking at sale purchases but will always look at FJ whenever i next need anything.

Interesting afternoon topped off with a nice little gift bag as a thank you (y) (2x ProV1, 2x ProV1X, FJ cap, 2 pairs of FJ socks, FJ Pro FLX glove and a ball marker for those who are interested)

Oddly enough, when we had picked the shoes we liked ( the first pair I picked was the black winter boots). We discussed what we liked and what we would like on them. I asked if we were going to discuss the ones we had not picked. We were. There was one style that no one had picked and no one liked.

Oh no... an opportunity missed on my doorstep.... & my favourite shoe, & polos.
Yes N. Leeds has incredible golfing opportunities...… & mostly at a reasonable price... going from Moor Allerton to Alwoodley you went right past my place offering some of the best value year-round golf in the area.

I was lucky enough to be there on the Monday afternoon and would echo the other comments made so far. The shoe section was shoe porn. Some utterly gorgeous shoes, never thought I would ever say that out loud but you really did have to see them. It was funny to see grown men cooing and stroking a pair of golf shoes. The range is actually so large that very few places will ever stock it all, a problem for them to a degree.

The clothing was an eye opener for me. I was not aware of how technical FJ are and how good the gear was. They themselves accepted that they currently do not get that across well enough. Considering their gear is not cheap they need to explain why you should pay more for it than for Nike, Addidas, UA etc. I can see it now but you can not when you are simply in a shop.

The FJ people were very open and keen to hear comments. A room full of yes men / women was not what they were after. We certainly gave them plenty of positive comments and enough negative ones for the session to be good for them, I hope.

I know that I will look at the FJ range now, clothes and shoes, with a greater deal of respect. I also think that working for FJ must be pretty darned nice.

Having previously always been a FJ shoe wearer, I have now thrown them all away after they were the cause of my plantar fasciitis. They Contours also only lasted 16 months before the sole seperating from the uppers.
I hope the build quality has improved greatly, as 16 months life and no FJ interest is a corporate suicide recipe

I would hope they have m8.
However for my feet it's Ecco now, and I dont see me risking my money on FJ for a very long time, if at all.
Then again it's horses for courses..

I've 9 pairs of FJ and one pair of Ecco...the latter are very comfortable but caused me 18 months of foot issues - the FJ haven't. None of the FJ are flat soled - the Ecco are.
Completely agree that people need to have golf shoes fitted - dynamically as well as statically. How you use your legs in a swing will dramatically affect the flex point, and necessary shoe model, to avoid flex related sole seperation/cracking. Unfortunately most just go on initial comfort (and looks).

Obviously coz ave signed the official secrets act i cannot say a lot about said products. However the better half of the day for me was shoes. That said. I have a feeling FJ dont make cheap shoes. Had a quick look in sports direct today and they are cheap. They look cheap and rammel. Now if thats what you can only afford i get that. But to buy cheap shoes when your gonna do 500 miles in them dont seem right to me. Not saying that you have to pay full whack for them. Thats what the sales are for 👍

We had a bloke who felt the same about wicking, antimicrobial protection and spikeless shoes. Some is undoubtedly marketing patter, some is genuine but they need to explain it better so that we punters understand and buy into the technology.
