Old Man Yardages

In the RAF we were always told when you change something you put a completely different item on, the correct term should be replace when you put the same sort of item on. Then there is the whole wheel/tyre thing ;)
There was me thinking that you lot just Christmas tree’d other aircraft and robbed bits to make 1 working whirly bird and left others rotting 🤣

Very g

very good!....and that would be on a 3 speed Bantam, probably a D5. I've done a lot of miles on a Bantam (I have two), but NEVER that far!!
Must admit I don’t know the term D5. It wasn’t a 125 or 175. They were green weren’t they?. The one I had was a 150, colour brown. A few years ago, I spoke to some guys showing vintage bikes. AJSs, etc and one said that my bike would be a limited edition? He wanted to know if I still had it because it would be worth a few bob now.😳
The answer, unfortunately , is No.😁

So, I had another indoor session, focussed on a more ryhtmic swing and trying to hit up on the ball more: with great succes: averaging 210 yards, with 185 yard carry. Happy days. Still old man yardages, but very playable. I have to point out that I used a swing tip from the people at "Easiest Swing" - the swing for seniors.

Another session on the Trackman at the weekend....seem to have picked up a bit of club speed with virtually all clubs...5 wood being a notable exception...but I guess my swing was just "out" with that particular club...sometimes that happens where you find that you smoke one particular club but cannot hit another at all well. The upshot is that this has largely translated into an extra 1/2 to 1 club distance with the irons and a noticeably higher launch, peak height and descent angle. How much of this is due to me just hitting it better/harder on the day or how much the ball influences things I'm not sure.

Might have to go and get my 9 iron measured and maybe weaken'd a bit, maybe just a degree, as it seems to encroach on the lower end of the 8 iron. Its also plain to see that the 5 hybrid does much the same job as the 6iron ( when I played yesterday I left the 6 iron out of the bag) and on the face of it the 5 wood is looking lost stuck between the 7 wood and 3wood. I might play around with the loft on the 3 wood next time around to see if a few more yards can be eeked out. I've got another 5 sessions left on the block booking I made which, in theory, should be enough to see me tweak the bag properly over the next six weeks in readiness for the summer. The 5,7 and 9 woods are all fairly new to the bag so perhaps a bit more practice with them is needed to deliver a bit of consistency.

Might also try finding some reflective spots to add on my irons to see if they can help the system identify my angle of attack.

Why change the ball? That very likely impacted the ball speed and distance figures since the Model X is a much harder compression than the Triad.

Because I'm looking to optimise everything where I can. Given that most manufacturers have released a new batch of balls and they all have subtle or not so subtle tweaks to the previous models then the ball is fair game for experimentation.

Given that we are constantly being told that a softer ball is more suitable to a slower swing speed than a harder ball, it is something that I wish to put to the test....also looking for a ball with greater peak height to help with descent angle. The My Golf Spy (?) Big Ball test picked out balls like the Model X as having a greater peak height at all swing speeds if I remember correctly.

If i can get better flight and more distance out of a harder ball then that's what I will go for.

Looks as if Model X is the one, is that a ‘mystery’ ball is it a Wilson one (I assume the Triad is Wilson).

Fair enough, I just thought you were testing swing changes against your earlier swing, in which case the ball would be an additional variable.

MGS normally claim that the 'softer ball is longer for slow swings' is actually a myth and they go less distance for everybody. But of course the firmer balls may have other characteristics you don't want, like too much spin perhaps. I'm going Triad myself this year, and MGS claims it's longer than my previous ball, the Vice Pro Air. I do prefer a mid-compression ball that's not too spinny personally. Often the firmer, spinny ball goes less distance on mid and short irons, but you've obviously not found that in your data. It's certainly spinning more.

Yes...the Model x and the Triad are both Wilson balls.

I will do a direct comparison session looking at Driver and 7 iron with maybe 4 different balls...was going to do it previously but a domestic knee injury pretty much prevented me from swinging a club for 2 weeks.

No....I'm not making any swing changes at all.

The only thing I'm trying to work on is better control of the "low point" of the iron swing...that is pretty much it. On the range on an artificial mat you can perhaps get away with the low point being a little "early" but out on real grass its a real killer of your strike.

Other than that...its a case of working with what I've got, optimizing the bag layout, and finding a ball that makes the most of what I'm giving it.

Looking at that data the additional spin is a good thing, better with your driver to keep it in the air longer: also higher with your shorter irons with similar carry which means better control. So far, especially as ball speed is generally up, the Model X is distinctly better.

Interesting, I like both Triad and Model X. I also liked Chrome Tour X, but that’s £50 /dozen so bit too much given the Model X is for me may be a yard behind and the Triad is a yard behind the Model X … so I play Triad at £30/dozen or less it’s an easy decision.

The compression stuff is interesting, I only look at lower compression for winter. Not because of swing speed reduction but more to do with temperature. I use the AD333 for winter .. does everything I ask, and is quite robust. My older friend uses the Titleist tru soft he is little faster than you and he finds it very good under these conditions.

Has any you-tuber ever explained their point in less than 10 minutes? These tips and stuff may be great but they waffle on for so long it makes me turn off before they get to their point.
Tough though because it’s their business so they need it to be long enough to monetise and still get their point over. This one was decent as you could click on the time stamp relating to your swing speed and then just ignore the rest. Quite good info for the average golfer but we know they don’t listen 😂

Not sure if the video needs to be 10 minutes before you can monitize it or if viewing time influences the algorithm. A lot of them waffle to get to 10 minutes.

I don't know if this one does it, I'll be watching it later, but the 20 waggles before hitting a shot drives me nuts. Once they do that, I'm off.

Just hit it 😡. Talk and hit, don't talk and waggle

I thought I heard a few years ago something about 8 minutes to involve adverts. I expect I am wrong but I dragged that from somewhere in the grey matter
