Off to silvermere

Finally decided to get myself fitted for a new driver and maybe a fairway/hybrid so I'm off to silvermere on Saturday to see how much poorer I'll be by the time I leave although my tax rebate should cover some of the cost.
being someone who stands on the right side of the ball my choices at a normal fit are limited - my local range only had the m1 and m2 available so an hour at left handed golf will be like xmas for me.

what brand are you looking for ,or are you going with an open mind and see what the figures say?
I will have a guess that you will end up with a Titleist or Callaway.

Went thinking about Ping, left with Callaway but didn't but from them. Left Handed you may not have the luxury of buying elsewhere, but still recommend you check for prices once fit, before buying, they are not the cheapest seller of clubs.

Going with an open mind and will see what gives the best dispersion as I can be a bit wild off the tee and I hit a long ball anyway so being on the short stuff will help!

As a fellow left handed golfer I've been thinking about going to Silvermere for a custom fit having played the course a number of times - interested in what they have to offer with regards to brands available.

The only place where you can go in to buy a £250 club, have one taped up to try and then they try and charge you £2 for 12 balls to hit on the range using it.

Never had that problem. I've always asked and been given a range token at the tills

Well that was £40 and a few hours well spent. Arrived nice and early so started with a coffee then warmed up with my 7 iron. Got some decent numbers with that but he thinks x flex shafts in my irons will better for my swing speed.

he got me hitting my mini driver (set to 12 degrees) and my swing speed was 102-107 with a carry averaging 250 but it was spinning like crazy.

he picked 3 low spinning drivers for me to try; M1, ping and the epic.

i hated the ping and it sounded bloody awful but was an improvement on my current set up.

the M1 was ok and my carry was up, spin down so happy with that. It was better than the ping

the fitter said looking at those 2 and my swing speed he could get me close to 300 yards with the right set up.

last was the epic and my god was it good! My swing speed was up to circa 115 even though I thought I was swinging slower. Spin dropped to 1800/1900 and carry was averaging 290 with a longest of 315. even the slight mis ***** went a decent way and the dispersion was tighter.

After some tinkering the best shaft was the fujikara pro green x flex.

Im now trying to justify the cost as I'll need a new fairway/hybrid as well.

Good experience mate. Just take Mrs Dando's housekeeping and go burn up the course

Glad you enjoyed the experience. It's really like having the run of the sweetshop in there isn't it with all the shaft options. The guys really know there stuff too. Funnily enough, someone (off+1) has recommended one of the teaching pros there. I was thinking of using an old pro I'd been to as I'm starting to have some doubts about the guy I'm seeing. Tempted to go for a tester (and they use similar facilities in the lessons as for the testing)
