odds on QPR going straight back down ??

Arl fellas like fish, may have been to Carlisle and Bristol in the first division also.;)

And really old fellas (like me) can remember Liverpool in the then Second Division.

As you say promotion & relegation makes the game special and allows fans to dream. I do, however, fear that within the not too distant future the "money men" will have their way and the best we can hope for would be a Premiership 1 & Premiership 2.

I hope I am wrong but fear that I will be right.

Shurrup - who asked you! ;) Again deservedly so.

Do you even remember when Everton were in the 2nd division? Just checked - didn't know Spurs went down in the 70's.

Yes, I fear the same also. It should be a meritocracy, but money is meaning more and more in football each season.

It's great when Wigan, Barnsley, Blackpool,Wimbledon et al come up. I'd have loved it if Tranmere would have made it 15 years or so ago.

I think it is here already.

Burnley average around 15,000 at home games. [around 10,000 less than Brighton and Derby]
They will never survive in the EPL with that kind of support.
Very sad but true.

Being a foxes support I hope do well, already made some good signings. Think all teams are there on merit as the tables don't lie. I'm hoping that there will be 3 teams worse than us!!

Income generated through the turnstiles is "so last year!"

Seriously, though, crowds have very little to do with survival with the level of the money paid to the clubs from the TV deal. What was the average attendance at Crystal Palace, Swansea or Hull City last season? Greater than Burnley's potential I am sure but still not likely to generate too much in terms of overall income.

The level of support wont be the reason if they go down

Is that not the reason so many golf clubs are in trouble?
They have overlooked their core business.

Be it Starbucks selling coffee cups
M&S selling underwear
Football and golf clubs selling season tickets and casual tickets.

What happens in England if the TV deals go sour.

I use to go home and away with Fulham and been to a vast number (74) grounds in all divisions. Paces like Huddersfield, Shrewsbury etc on a Tuesday night in mid January with a gate of 3000. They are the hard core true fans that to be honest for the lower league clubs are their life blood. They aren't going to get big crowds, especially in areas with bigger clubs or other sports like rugby league and union. Clubs know they can't survive on these crowds alone which is why sponsorship and TV revenue is vital.

That is true.
Scottish clubs are competing at a fairly decent level with crowds 60% lower than Burnley.
One in fact just won the Scottish cup for the first time in it's history.

However the EPL is a very different league, hells teeth you get £40,000,000 for finishing LAST.
Will West Brom v Burnley in front of a half empty ground make for good TV viewing, probably not.

It will all end in tears, I think the money will spoil everything.

Golf clubs struggling will be down to the way the economy is these days - people cant afford to pay out the money required.

West Brom vs Burnley can make good viewing - all depends on how the game is and the situation. They havent even played a game and you have written them off already. Why would it be a half empty ground ?!

Whilst people continue to watch sky and bt sports the money will continue to roll in

Golf is no comparison to football in this context.
Making comparisons with starbrooks and m&s knickers is no comparison..
What if.....? i win the lottery.
Football will exist without tv deals, always will. I guess we could always lend the Scotish FA a few quid if needed.;)

Thing is QPR was a virtual sell out in the championship for most games and to be honest Loftus Road isn't really big enough for the PL. We struggle when we shared. There was rumours they were looking for a bigger ground or trying to do something to increase capacity

Agree with players and agents but managers are under massive pressure to perform and are regulary sacked these days unless they provide instant results

True but I still find it hard to understand, never mind justify, the salaries many of them receive.

Particularly when compared with other walks of life where the decisions made by senior management have far more relevance than those made by any football manager.

I guess they can demand those salaries because he they are successful the club does get a lot of money.

Big bosses in big companies get big money due to getting big profits i guess ?

Run of the mill players being paid £1,000,000 a MONTH.
That cannot be justified.

Sky keep putting up the subs.
I know it is supply and demand but I just can't see it continuing at that level.

Yes but in the overall scale of things football clubs are relatively small companies based upon number of employees and turnover.

The rewards are disproportionate.
