Have just been looking on the net and seen pictures of the Taylormade burner 09 Irons. As far as I can tell, the Burner Plus irons were only released a couple of months ago claiming to be the latest thing and they came out only a matter of months after the Burner XD which, in turn, replaced the short lived original Burner irons.

I can just about get to grips with clubs being updated annually but there now seems to be a new version of the Burner Irons every quarter. As far as I can see, these clubs have been 'updated' 3 times in the last year which is madness.

So it would seem that golf clubs are the new football shirts!!!

Its so frustrating when you have the newest shinest clubs on the market but only maintain that status for a few months until the newer version is released.Their R&D department probably has lists of new features but rather then blowing their loads too quickly they stagger the release of technology over several new model versions.

The business man in me sees the logic, the golfer in me feels the frustration.

Its a case of producing golf stuff knowing it will be bought as I have said before in another thread, it has little to do with demand these days, more like taking advantage of particular market and buyer.

Its all very strange in the TM world tigh now. They seem to have a new line out almost evey two months. I was talking with Mike at GM about this earlier and he told me that when TM came to see them a few years back they were going to concentrate on an R series and a Burner series. What they obviously forgot to include was that these ranges would be a perpetual reinvention.

TM have gone the way of Maver (fishing tackle manufacturer).
New models every year to supercede the previous years "can't get any better" model.

It's marketing, which self respecting golfer would be seen with "last years" gear in their bag.
It all appeals to the tackle tarts (as we called them in angling circles)They must have the newest, best, state of the art gear.
Carbon fibre poles were often the cutting edge of match fishing equipment and many anglers had to have the newest, most up to date model in order that they stayed in front of their angling opponents.

A load of bunkum I say. Many anglers moved away from Maver as a manufacturer, simply because they couldn't keep up, and couldn't afford the constant updated tackle.

I'm sorry folks, but I get the feeling many TM users will possibly follow suit.
It's a constant marketing ploy to boost TM goods. It's also a greedy manufacturer preying on the gullibility and I suppose gear tart tendencies of the golfer.

Good luck to 'em, I know I won't be buying any of their new gear yet although I wouldn't be averse to receiving any new TM goods gratis from GM for field testing!!!

I have the following -
TM Driver, 3&5 Woods, Irons and I am looking to change the Irons.

Sorry TM but I love my TM Burners but I wont be changing to new TM's as I cant afford to keep changing and the depreciation is too much.

I dont need the latest kit but I do take notions and I tried the TM burner tours which I loved - sorry but the AP2's will be current for a bit longer then 6 months.

Bye Bye TaylorMade, its a pity as the kit has been fantastic.

But lets face it, we, the kit buying public, are perpetuating the process by falling into the trap and buying it.

What happened to sticking with your gear? 15 years ago I bought a set of irons and they stayed with me for 5 years, woods too. I know technology has made a difference but in real terms? You may hit it 10 yards further but is that 10 yards further into the rough?

I'll admit that some of us have had benefit from new tech. But I was playing a very similar game 10 years ago with old tech (new then).

Don't shoot but....

I almost get the feeling that if we start playing badly, the first thing we look at is the clubs. Move them on, get some new ones in, things will be better. Instead of working through the problem with your set.

Some have the cash and will to buy buy buy. I know because I was one. But its coming to the point - as with Murph - that I'm happy with my set and won't look to change. If I start playing badly, I'll look at my technique rather than the clubs.

As long as we keep buying, they'll keep making!

Emporer's new clothes

A couple of lessons and/or a bit more practice would far outweigh any minute possible game improvements that the regular introduction of "new" clubs would bring.

The old addage of "a fool and his money are easily parted" come to mind

I'm currently updating my bag. Bought a starter set 18 months ago and quickly learned there was only so far I could go with it.

so far replaced the driver, putter and a recue club. a 3 or 5 wood will be coming for my birthday next month then it will be the irons as soon as I can afford it.

After that I don't intend changing anything until it breaks or wears out. I hope that won't be for a fair few years yet!!!

Its the same with the Ping range, the G5 & G10 are very much the same hence the reason why the price on the G5 hardly reduced over the years. The Rapture and V2, is here a massive difference between them?

That said, I am sure if we had the cash available and didnt work, AG and the likes would be on the list of second homes after the course.

Typically one of the reasons I dont have any interest in TM gear.

Problem with buying new shiney clubs is that when the new ones come out 6months later, your clubs have lost value.

Imagine how much more we would get for second hand clubs if new models only came out every 3 years.

I love my new mizzies and will be looking at keeping them for a good 5 years, maybe more.
