3 of us are having a trip to North Berwick in late May (hurrah)
We arrive late afternoon if the transport works correctly, and I was looking for suitable low key activities for the first evening.
Twilight rounds at The Glen come in at around £60 each, and even Gullane 3 is £35 plus a taxi. I'm not even sure we want an 18 after a day on the train, so I was casting around for a little 9 holer or pitch-n-putt (or something like the himalayas) and found a reference to the Wee Course at the West Links.
It seems perfect for our needs, but stipulates that you need to have a child with you. Is this rule strictly adhered to? Can I hire an urchin for a dirty fiver and send them packing once past the starter?
Advice and/or alternatives welcome.

It's slap bang in the middle of the town , on the other side of the road from G no1.
Ah, we're staying in North Berwick, not Gullane. But still might be worth a trip.
Edit : it also says you need to acquire a child to be allowed on. What gives in East Lothian???

I think the children rules to play the wee course is enforced @IanG will confirm and will give you options if he looks in on the thread.

Yes the Wee course is essentially children only and not really what you are looking for. It's 50/50 whether anyone would question you if you just wandered on after 6pm.

You could consider making the trip to 9 -hole Musselburgh Old and play there http://www.musselburgholdlinks.co.uk/
£17.50 Historic venue in the middle of a race track, flat easy walk on a summer evening. Might be doable with a taxi. I know A2B and Jim's local taxi firms have mini vans which will take 4 of you and clubs.

Gifford is nice enough and only 9 holes but is also a taxi ride away - Musselburgh Old is more unique.

There are two public putting greens in town. One next to the West Links which is pretty uninspiring and another one beside the tennis courts which has much more undulation. It is nothing like as crazy as the Himalayas but a nice way to spend an hour if it is sunny.

pm me if you need any more local info.

What about the course at Musselburgh never played it myself, but it specialises in hickory games so I would imaging its short. You can hire hickory clubs to use.

Same for the free to use childrens course at Gullane.......the clue is in the name:giggle:

If the Cooncil putting green at NB is open in May that solves your problem.
Not as challenging at the Hymalayas but good fun.

Non golf related.....You could climb The Law.

There's also Winterfie,d over at Dunbar, a very nice short course. Great views as its a half parkland and half links sort if course. Easy round after a days travel.
