No more Winter Rules.....

Being lifted on Monday 5th May. We have a Winter course defined and rated (for winter comp and GP card purposes) - plus we are close to agreeing members should be asked to use a mat in Winter - though it won't be mandatory and perhaps only an 'ask' when conditions 'demand'.

Tiger and dugites.......both of which can kill you.....
When I played an inland course in Victoria (carved by the locals out of the bush) the advice was to not go looking for my ball if I hit it off the fairway and into the undergrowth...

The LRs for the oil-sand greens were interesting...but goodness the greens did rather have their own particular aroma.

Not all sand greens are alike.....I love playing on them, great for your short game.

The old dates have been restored but the guidance remains firm that PL should only be in effect when absolutely necessary - so not a return to just keeping the for the full period regardless.

Counties would rather not be involved beyond offering advice. However, there have simply been too many instances of clubs seemingly lacking the knowledge required to follow the previous guidance correctly, or intentionally disregarding it. Restoring the dates at least contains any problems to the winter months when PL is most likely to be reasonable.

Of course , can’t have the clubs being trusted with the responsibility to manage their own course and make their own judgement

The counties imo no doubt want the power

Wonder how many clubs the EG actually spoke to - I guess none

Playing all the place this summer and because of the weather conditions this year there are many clubs that should have been on preferred lies and weren’t

Some places are over protective of their courses though. They might need a little realignment of their judgement.

Some will be - then look at those ,a lot will be imo more that sensible

But there should never be a problem with courses wanting to put down preffered lies when the course dictates it

The rule change last year was a good move

They are now going backwards - but it’s not a surprise when taking into account the incompetence of the governing bodies and counties

Yes all those pesky volunteers giving their time up to help clubs, all for the sole reward of the sneering scorn of golfers. Horrible people.

Interesting that one’s will have had to deal with are paid a decent amount of money and yet don’t have the expertise having witnessed how they run county events

I am not sure what you mean by “Interesting that one’s will have had to deal with” but a lot of work done by the County to help clubs is done by unpaid volunteers, including the help that clubs will get with the implementation of this change of policy
The sort of uninformed contemptuous, disdainful comments on here are luckily just confined, in my experience, to this forum.
