Nike Sucks?

Christ, I'd play with Nike if they paid me that sort of money. They are golf clubs, I'll bet that the ones made for him are almost no different to what he currently uses so wont matter what badge they have on them.

What person wouldnt want that kind of money if on offer?

Someone who does not wish to become in thrall of the Corporate beast? He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon.

Nike clothing and shoes seem quite good to me, in fact all the peripheral stuff is decent, not sure I'd chance the clubs over the traditional big names though.

My irons don't work - wedges are better (for me!!) than anything else i've ever tried.

Nike have gone all out for this one, it'll shift some kit that's for sure. I'll buy anything I like the feel of, or look of. I've got Nike shirts, Adidas shirts and a Ping number too - not bothered in the label.

I think anyone that rules out any brand on prejudice is doing themselves no favours when it comes to buying new kit.

I'm guilty too, just not with Nike.

pretty same attitude as Whee for me .. If i see a T shirt i like i will buy it, wont matter the branding .. if i found iron i prefer over my MP32's & could afford them i would buy them no matter the branding .. likewise if the nike balls perform better FOR ME than the pro v 's , im there ..
Have loads of different brands & thats they way i will stay ..

I think the negative vibe towards Nike may be down to them doing a "Chelsea" or "Man City" - going round signing up as many top players as they can, almost trying to buy approval from the punters.
I've never hit a Nike club - they just don't do anything for me. The newer combo iron sets are decent but I haven't liked the look of any of their other golf kit. And I have to like the look of a club, even it if works perfectly well, if I don't like the look I can't settle with it.

I own a dri fit polo and its nice, think a pair of my trooosers are nike too. thats as far as i would go personally. I never perceived nike as a golf manufacturer. don't ask me why with brand ambassadors like tiger woods in your face. but for me, even though for example taylormade are owned by Adidas, at least golf is all that part of the company does.

In my weird head, its like buying a car made by samsung. yes they are a huge company with great products, but maybe not their perceived specialty.

Not saying any of that is right, thats just how my head works....

Also, Nike footwear has never fitted me well. will only buy Adidas or Puma for trainers.. (own adidas and footjoy golf shoes)

The Pro Combi set is a good set of irons with a lovely ball flight. Worth a look. However I have been put off ever since the Nike Sumo driver came out. That could shatter ear drums at 30 paces and was an ugly looking thing. A lot of their early offerings weren't great but they are now making big strides forward. I like the concept of the Covert driver (looking forward to trying that one\) and think going forward they will only improve

It's horses for courses as every pair of Nike footwear I have ever had has been comfy from the off. Where as I really struggle with a lot of adidas shoes over the years. I think adidas footwear looks better and it much cooler than Nike, and that usually suckers me in, but then they just never feel really comfy.

I played a rented Nike set while on hols last year, and must say they were a treat. The Sq (or whaterver it is called) driver was as long as my Taylormade Burner + the irons were as effective. The cavity back looks an impressive beast too...

Rors + Woods reminds me Button + Hamilton (new boy v old boy) situation. Who will walk to Mercedes? Tiger's contract runs till 2014

I have the Nike VR Split cavity irons and love them. I love the look of them and the feel when I hit a sweet shot. I'm sure there are irons better suited to my game but I'll grow into them fairly quickly in the in the new season when I'm playing more.

I have nike golf dri fit shirts and trousers which are far better than the Adidas equivalent IMO, and I'll be buying nike shoes if I don't go with footjoys as as everyone knows Adidas have issues with the padding and material coming away on the inside of the heel. My power and 3.0s are on their last legs and a reply 12 months old

I'll be honest and say I'm gonna use the Rbz driver this season but I'm not ruling out a return to nike woods in the future

Definitely Pro-Nike

I'm a bit in this mould too, Nike make sports wear, Titleist make golf equipment I'd generally go Titleist for golf equipment and Nike for sports wear.

That's a bit black and white but you get my thought.

I have few Polo shirts as they fit nicely.

A few years ago my then Boss's teenage boys had taken up golf they went along to a golf event and toured the selling village, certain companies took no interest, except one who fell over themselves to give as much help as possible to give his boys the best start, this company was Callaway, (funny as I tell this story I sound like him!). Callaway even after his visit to their trade stand, sent a whole load of goodies in the post to his boys. Having spent many years in the sportswear business, he was curious about Callaway, which resulted in a bit of anorak research by him, He told me that Callaway were making clubs branded for Nike for Tiger to use as Nike had signed up Tiger before they had put any Golfing infrastructure in place. This was backed up a couple of years later when on the Radio they were talking about the Tiger effect on Golf while the Open was on, one of the comments was about the giant Nike Billboards lining the road to the course promoting their new ball, the reporter went on to say that it was a massive PR coup when Nike had no Golf manufacturing ability at the time.
In keeping with the thread it would be interesting to know how much input other golf manufacturers might still provide to a massive company/brand like Nike and their Golf division: Or did Nike just buy the brains in to accelerate the process to go from zero to a wide golfing brand.

Where is the love for Nike gear?

For the last couple of years i have seen a common dislike for Nike stuff on here and the recent Rory signing has rekindled it. I don't get it.

I have used a Nike driver and loved it, my current 3wood is a Nike and my go-to club. My Nike Shoes are far better than the (where did my heel go) Adidas 360 i used last year and the Nike VR pro combo irons are golfing porn.

Why are so many on here whores to Taylormade, Callaway and Ping.

Go on give Nike a try, you might be surprised.

Personal preference which then turns into rivalry!

If Nike clubs are so inferior (as has been spouted on here and other threads) why have they won more majors in the last 5 years than any other manufacturer?

Nike 5 - Tiger, Schwartzel, Glover, Cink, Immelman
Ping 3 - Bubba, Oosthuisen, Cabrera
Titleist 3 - Simpson, Rory x2
Callaway 3 - Phil, Ernie, GMac
Taylor Made 3 - Kaymer, Yang, Clarke,
Wilson 2 - Harrington x2
Cleveland 1 - Bradley

Because they throw big bucks at the best players maybe? I'm almost certain that if all those winners were using different clubs, they still would have won. Personally I don't know what Nike clubs are like so have to sit firmly on the fence but I don't think the fact they have had, and will continue to have, more major winners, is a reflection on the quality (or not) of club, more a reflection of the size of their budget!!!

Would have to disagree with you there Hawkeye.

Aside from Tiger I dont think I would put any of the Nike major winners in the BEST PLAYERS bracket at the time they won their major. Schwartzel has obviously gone onwards and upwards since the Masters.

The fact of the matter is there is very little between any of the big brands, Nike included, and they are all probably as good quality as each other. It all comes down to looks and feel when average joes like us are buying a set of clubs, but unfortunately an element of snobbery dominates some peoples choices.

NIKE Sucks ? Was the Title

No question mark needed, TODAY, for RORY
YES ............ NIKE SUCKS :D

And, Yes, I realise Rory is a bit rusty, but I KNOW which side of the story the PRESS will choose to write about............

Equipment Change, NO doubt, they will have a Field day

I'm not sure I buy this "Rusty" term they use.
On SSNews I heard (I think Ewan Murray) say that Tiger looked rusty.....Rory looks rusty......
These Guys play golf for a living, they practice most days, they play practice rounds - I don't think it's rustiness. I think they're just playing badly.
We get rusty, not having played for a couple of weeks - these guys don't, they play good or they play bad.
