Nice write up for Lottie Woad.

Dermot Byrne is caddying for Lottie at the Scottish…he has caddied for Shane Lowry some years ago, and Leona Maguire until fairly recently..before working with Molinari. I think he may also have caddied for her or a team mate in one Curtis Cup match - so she has met him before..

Lottie’s life-long coach, Luke Bone, is going to caddy for her in The Open at Royal Porthcawl end of this month. Lottie explained in an interview earlier this week how this has been agreed for some time so that when Luke appeared on her bag at the Open it wouldn’t look like she’d sacked Dermot after one comp 😊

If all goes well with Dermot Byrne this week, the Open will, most likely, be Luke’s swan song as caddy and Dermot will take over - perhaps for just the States at first (as that is where he is based I think) but maybe for across the world. Luke will remain as Lottie’s swing coach as coaching is where his passion lies…after all working with Lottie’s dad, other assistant pros and a couple of other dads, he has built the junior section and junior academy at the club to 150+. Thriving.
Personally SILH. I think Lottie may well have a decision to make and it’s a biggie. Am sure she may well have a “ management team “ and they have a decision to make between them all.

The ultimate point is to get Lottie to win titles and to progress amongst the world’s best. And to win titles, big titles.

I totally get that the open would be Luke’s swan song on the bag at the open. But this is about Lottie, not Luke. He will always be there, Always. Bottom line does Lottie want to finish second with Luke on the bag or first with Dermot. The point is that professionals are looking for that extra 0.1%. Having a professional caddy at a major is more than 0.1%
Whatever she chooses, go Lottie.

I’m always intrigued by when and why golfers change swing coaches / caddies…

(Talking generally here, not necessarily about Lottie Woad)

After all, the swing coach has presumably got the pro from youngster to promising junior to elite amateur to pro (of course, also massively down to the pro’s aptitude, work ethic, natural ability and temperament under pressure etc) to that level in the first place…so why change when you turn pro?

Why would a big name coach do any better?
For example, did Butch ‘what’s his name’ or Pete Cowan make the players, or did the players success make these ‘big name’ coaches and build their brand/reputation?

I would come down on the side of the ‘players make the coach’s name’ tbh, in a binary choice..

I think Scottie has stuck with the same coach his whole life hasn’t he?

I’m lucky enough to have played Farnham a good few times but had never heard of Lottie until I played there last year when they had a yellow Augusta flag on display in the Clubhouse. I enquired why it was there and was told about Lottie’s win at Augusta a few weeks earlier. It certainly seems to have been a superb couple of years for her. I’ll be at Royal Porthcawl for the Women’s Open next week and had intended trying to follow Lottie round the course on the Thursday or Friday but given her excellent performances in the Irish Open, the Evian, and now the Scottish Open, I suspect she’ll have everyone trying to watch her.

I like watching women’s golf, (the swings are more discernible ), but what can you say about Lottie?. I know it’s daft, but through her connection with SILH, well known parishioner of this parish, I feel I almost know her. ( told you it was daft).
But we all must be rooting for her like mad. To be on the cusp of winning your first pro event after doing what you’ve already done, and being so well known to one of us, (her exploits having been relayed by SILH for some good while now.)
Well, it does bring it all somewhat closer to us.
And Poor old SILH, he must be like a cat on a hot tin roof😀
Come on, Lottie!!!

Not just me of course...the whole club is - especially the many of us who have watched her development over the last ten years into the great player she is today. And of course equally excited are my daughter and my Mrs (who is now an avid follower of women's golf having never played the game and her only previous interest was The Masters - she likes that...a story for another time)

Another -5 today, just routine it would seem at the moment, and a two shot lead into the final day. Go Lottie Go!!

And the club members got a mention in the commentary, including the 150 + juniors
