Nice write up for Lottie Woad.

And the far eastern players dominating, but only 5 shots back, hope her putting improves and she makes a charge tomorrow.
If anything it was her short game rather than her putting that wasn’t on point today. But the team were satisfied given the twice she had to play out sideways from bunkers with little chance of saving par. Plus the wind was pretty stiff in the afternoon - more so than the morning. But that’s golf.

Superb course - but a knackering walk (and sometimes run to get to marshalled crossing before they were closed off). More tomorrow.

I only saw the highlights, which included that horrible bunker. Come on girl!

Watched on tv today. Shocked how flat certain holes looked from high cameras😁 Kept getting thrown by the "wrong" hole numbers, even on one different from how it's played.

Heading down there tomorrow...looking forward to it

How long is the course playing? Can't find it anywhere?
Last time I went to an let event they were playing a mixture of red and yellow tees with the odd white one.

I saw the R&A YouTube channel did a hole by hole guide….Agreed, can’t see the contours from such a height

Loves my visit there, in 2021….gorgeous course!

From the video, I was disappointed to see that (I presume) Ebert has had his hands on Porthcawl, as the blown-out bunkers and gigantic sandy waste areas are there 🤪🤯

The short par 3, inland at the top of the hill (the 7th? 8th?) has a massive sandy waste area on the left - serving sod all purpose, and looking wholly out of place IMO

What was the problem with the yellow flowering gorse bushes 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️?

That leaderboard is incredible. 6 Japanese players in top 6 😯. Has anyone ever seen anything like it for a single nation (excluding USA players on a PGA tour event which is a bit different as they make up the heavy majority of most fields)? Maybe South Korea in one of their dominant LPGA phases?

They've been taking out the gorse over the past few years. Several holes had loads of it.... nearly all gone now.

Talk was to facilitate spectator movement and viewing, also remove rabbit habitats. Who knows. They want The Open at some point.

6748 par 72... a quick Google of "AIG Women's Open Course Length" and plenty of info appeared.

I think that's plenty of length round that course! Eg the 5th par 3 tee was against the fence 220 yards. Terribly difficult green to stay on. No gimmes!

Whoever wins will have played proper golf.😉

So a sort of mixture of whites and blues, that is really tough. It’s a pretty stiff test in the wind off the yellows.

Going great 10 through 14, missed a shortish birdie putt on 15 and then a bit of a mare on 16. Bit of clubbing indecision saw her change and it just went into grimland. Maybe should’ve taken pen relief straight off - but drop two clubs just as grim; back in line was not good, and S&D would still have left the same difficult shot with the firm crosswind. No matter. Even if she’d got in 6 under, the lead is seemingly impregnable - but all to play for a high finish…currently sitting 10th.

Btw…some of the course might look flattish from high on TV, but my goodness it’s pretty much all hilly and hard work walking it. But it’s an absolutely cracking course…must try and play it sometime.

One of the things that surprised me when I was in Japan earlier this year was how massive the game is out there.

Boy that was a tough wind out on the Royal Porthcawl links this afternoon…early starters def got the best of things before the wind freshened. Lottie played really well but almost nothing dropped for Lottie when a birdie was available, though three or four good up and downs. But a back end start is good…off at 12:55 with Minjee Lee…a multiple major winner…again. What fun…though the weather forecast does not look good. No matter. Onwards and Upwards.

Not quite there for Lottie today. Great effort for her early professional career though. She has an exciting future ahead.

Charley Hull going well, chasing Yamashita down.
Will be an interesting last few holes.

A 4 under finish has her currently in 9th, which is pretty good and better than players such as Nelly Korda.

Minus 4 has her finish at the same score as the leading amateur, which she was just a few weeks ago and great to see.

Well done Lottie!
