None of the above got it for just doing their sport:
Redgrave: The honour was bestowed following his historic achievement at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, where he won his fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, a feat achieved by no other endurance athlete.

Southgate: Tournament success, Cultural transformation, Leadership & Values, Mentorship.

Holmes: Apart from her Athletics, also he work on mental health and her work introducing young people to sport.

Bit more than “just doing their job”
Also they don’t nominate themselves.

I totally agree there are examples of “gongs for mates” but 99% of sportsmen/actors etc tend to be doing a lot outside of their main “job”

Clearly found a better list than I did as what I got in google didn’t mention any of that. So fair play if that’s true well except fo Kelly Holmes she’s an absolutely vile woman to be around despite the public persona she portrays. Had many dealings with her through work and other things over the years not a nice person imo.

Agree on Holmes, our paths crossed a few times while she was serving and a couple of times afterwards in her role as “Honarary Colonel” with the Tankies!

I can’t think of one sports person that has received an award for an isolated ‘win.’ Equally, I think the whole process needs a review if only to regain the public’s trust in the awards.

There was one of the England cricket team that won the Ashes in 2015(if I remember correctly) got an award and they only had one innings and scored badly. I’m sure someone on here can fill in the gaps.

Agree on Holmes, our paths crossed a few times while she was serving and a couple of times afterwards in her role as “Honarary Colonel” with the Tankies!

Correct. Managed to find it on Wikipedia . Scored 7 and 10 in the 5th test in 2005 and got an MBE.
