Potential New Driving Laws

No government is changing this, it is political suicide.

If the public has to choose between 40 mph on country lanes and killing of half of the people then Thanos is going to be the next PM

Sadly I make you 100% right on this one. It’s such a quick and sensible thing to change, would reduce accidents by the bucket load where I live, let alone across the rest of the country. But alas nobody in power has the balls to do it.

In fairness ,having lived in the country all of my life I've never heard of a death on what I'd term a country lane , IE single carriageway, however plenty on B roads unfortunately.
They recently shut the A 41 for summer work near us and the usual suspects were out avoiding the official diversions and hoofing it down our lane 😡

There are so many accidents here on a weekly basis on the Many surrounding single lanes! Think we just have a lot of entitled dick heads. As often the main junction/cross road at the B road is blocked due to idiots coming out of a county lane which then leads to further diversions down the other lanes that then clog with further accidents.

Simple traffic lights times for certain times of day of a roundabout would alleviate that, add in the reduced limit on the lanes and not would save so many accidents. Ironically local council have said they won’t put in traffic calming as under current guidelines the number of accidents irrelevant as there hasn’t been enough fatalities

My father's GP reported him to the DVLA a few years ago and his licence was taken away, so have the rules changed recently?

The requirement for as long as I can remember has been for a licence holder to refer themselves to DVLA if they become unfit to drive for medical reasons.

In the first instance a GP will advise a patient regarding their inability to drive and their legal obligation to refer it to DVLA. If the patient is unwilling to refer it, or incapable of doing so, that is when the GP should step in and do it.

The issues will quite clearly arise if and when a patient is economical with the truth. In the TV documentary I referred to at least one of the patients told their optometrist that they no longer drove, and they then continued to do so, unchecked, for several years.

Just another example of self policing not working !

Needs a button on the GPs computer to send the details of someone they think should not be driving straight to DVLA .
Then let the patient prove he is on appeal.
