The Patriots are who we thought they were. Week 1 was your typical Week 1/Bengals not ready to play aberration. But it is good to see the Jets back in their 80s green uniforms.

Away from the NFL, Shohei Ohtani became the first player in baseball history to have a 50-50 season, 50 home runs, 50 steals. It is mind-boggling what he can do and he's not even pitching this year because of elbow surgery. To put in cricket terms, imagine a combination of Brian Lara, Viv Richards and Joe Root in terms of batting but then also with the fast bowling ability of Michael Holding. Ohtani is simply a freak of nature in the sport's history.

Be fair ps, the pats only got done in overtime week two. I'm not saying that they deserved to win but they weren't given a hiding.
Watching the highlights of the jets game and it would appear that the pats didn't bring a QB or any type of cover for him to New York. Very poor and the amount of times he was sacked must be close to a record.

What’s your thoughts on YOBS comments that baseball is struggling with more kids in America now playing proper football.

It was the Seahawks who have looked horrible against Denver and New England. No doubt they will blow the Dolphins out this weekend though.

As for the Pats, their OL is a mess it's why they aren't starting Maye, he'd get killed behind that line. They also may have to put him into witness protection as the whole of Boston probably wants him gone after this...

Baseball has been suffering a popularity decline in recent years because of the way the game has gone through analytics. Pitchers just throwing max effort all the time, an endless supply of relief pitchers doing the same where velocity is everything. And arm injuries everywhere. Batters just go up trying to hit home runs or nothing so strikeouts are prevailent. Which does not make much of an entertainment spectacle for the purists of the game. Imagine cricket where every bowler is trying to bowl 90 mph and every batter tries to hit a six all the time. (OK the Hundred). They tried to improve it last year by introducing a pitch clock to speed up the game and banning defensive shifts which has helped but it needs more doing it. So the view of the game has declined.

Many parents will not their boys play football (American) because of concussion and injury concerns which is understandable. So this leaves football (soccer) because it is easy to arrange, flak jackets for goalposts etc. It has been the prevailent girls' sports for many years now and is starting to see growth in the boys' side. It will take time but right now, there is an opportunity in the market and the soccer organisers in the US have realised this and are promoting it.

Am sure he was drafted around the time of Brian Boswick ?
I remember a coming together of them two in a game and I think Bo came off better. Didn’t Boz have number 44 at college but couldn’t have it for the NFL. So he had 44 on his taped ankles. What happened to him coz He was supposed to be another worldly player. Was he at seahawks. 🤔
There are good documentaries in the ESPN 30 for 30 series on Bo and the Box, very illuminating.

A great series and the one called Broke, all about the very high % of American sportsmen predominately NFL but also MLB and NBA who go bankrupt within a few years of retiring, highlighting the sharks that are around - quite sobering.

I have done work with Bill Simmons who was behind a lot of the early 30 for 30s. Broke is only the tip of the iceberg unfortunately. Too many less-than-intelligent individuals with too much money too soon and they blow it all.

It has been an issue for decades. Too many hangers on and yes men and a lot of poor business deals and devious management.

I'm so glad we put all our eggs into the Watson basket. Goddammit it, Cleveland!!! Another season with a substandard offense it seems.

When I was with Sky, the selection of games was always an issue. You wanted to have the best match-ups on paper but combined with trying to show every team. Throw in the early/late game splits and you could never win. The one thing to realise of course is that high scoring does not mean a great game. Some of the worst games I have covered have been 45-40 scorelines where neither team could play defense and some of the best ones have been low-scoring defensive masterpieces. It is the same as complaining that 4-4 draws in football are great but 0-0 or 1-0 games must be terribie. It was usually the less-informed viewers who would complain to us about the low-scoring NFL games we showed.

Anyway must go, the Bucs are about to turn up for their game against Denver. Shame it finished 4pm local time yesterday.

The NFL record for the worst all-time trade is right now a toss up between the Browns' deal with Houston for Deshaun Watson and the Panthers' trade up with Chicago to take Bryce Young. Ranks alongside DiCaprio winning a ticket for the Titanic in a card game.

Fell asleep last night watching the Dolphins game, that's how bad it was. McDaniel's play calling is baffling at times and I think they might be better off just straight snapping it to Achane rather than have Tim Boyle play QB (Skylar got knocked out of the game behind what might be the worst OL in the league). You go into a game with a back up QB and make zero effort to adjust the gameplan and have a split of 22 passes to 11 runs in the first half as if you still have Tua playing QB.

The amount of dumb penalties this team commits is mind blowing. They even managed to have an illegal formation penalty on a kickoff and a punt. Feels like the season is over already if I'm being honest.
