Still think a lot of it comes down to weather. You can play golf in the southern US all year.....and if you can get some college education for a work career on top of that it's a big
and.....I think the media attention is the final oomph. In the US the really really best athletes tend to go towards Football (American), Basketball, or Baseball.....that's where the media attention and money is.

When if ever will we have an English number 1, or major winner? As a kid I used to watch Faldo striding down the fairways with an air of confidence that he was going to win.

Throughout the last round even when he missed a couple of puts he did continue with an air of confidence. It was great to watch.
